Hope all have a great day. Be safe.

Please tell us more about your water tank, Eric.

I can tell you some, but I can't claim it is the right way to do it. Several tank manufacturers say a good water tank base can be made from sand, all it takes is something around the outside to keep it from moving out. The rabbits in this country love to burrow, so I had little option other than to make it from concrete.

I used broken bricks and old concrete for the bottom of the foundation, smashing them with a sledge hammer until I had built up a layer about 4 inches thick over what was already pretty solid ground. The rubble was blinded with sharp sand then vibrated in nice and tight with a whacker plate.
If I had been able to get ready mix concrete in, I would have poured a slab in one go. That was too much for me hand mixing (even with a bit of help from the Iseki's bucket), so I cast the perimeter first, outside the area where the tank would sit. The plinth is 6" deep and 10" wide with some good rebar, especially on each corner.

The middle of the slab where the tank sits is only 4" thick concrete (less to hand mix !), though I doubt making it much thicker would serve any real purpose. I went to the trouble of leaving out the aggregate for the top inch of the concrete, making that a pure sand/cement screed, which is a lot easier to tamp down flat. Before it hardened I smoothed that over that with a float, thinking it would be the best possible finish to leave with no chance of puncturing the liner. That was all a complete waste of time as when the tank parts came, the instructions say to put down a 2" layer of sifted sand over the concrete base inside the steel rings. Knowing that may save you some time.

If you need 30,000 gallons, that is a much larger tank than mine (I have the option to connect to a much larger tank in the next field). Mine is only 6' diameter and 6' high. 120,000 litres would cost here 3,130 pounds (+ tax) for galvanised steel rings, fixings and 1 mm butyl liner. With an EDPM liner that would come down to 2,433 pounds. Steel Open Top Tank & Liner: 12, ltr 1.14m ∅ (33') | Butyl Products Ltd Group

Good morning, rain is easing off after 6" in the last few days. That's a lot for us, we tend to get it little and often.

David, that looks a great pipe layer for your sub soiler  Not sure how you are planning to do it, but one option is to make a pass first without the pipe, just to make sure there are no big rocks or anything else buried in your way, then repeat to put in the pipe.

56 going to 78 and rain tonight.

Lynn, hope you are better today.

Glad Brogen is ahead in the score after 1 inning of play. :)

Never eat spam or kraut, but on the rare hot dog or BBQ, a pile of southern cole slaw on top does the trick for me.

Glorious day yesterday...crisp 60's and 70s all day...worked on screen porch. More to do today.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 51° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 75° with mostly cloudy skies. Decided to cut lawn yesterday instead of trim trees. Wife has a Dr appointment this morning. Then I will start on trees.

Best wishes to Phil, Buckeye, Lynn, Randy and others for recovery to continue. Prayers sent for all.

Drew, you got lots of suggestions on how to use to the ground sliced potatoes. Hope they tasted good.

Jay, bears in yard is something I do not have to deal with.

David, sorry about tractor delay.

Good Morning All.

Speaking of Spam and Kraut. Fond of both. For Spam there is a low sodium version. Yeah...LOL. There are over 13 various types too. Freind of mine collected the cans and proudly displayed them in his work space. He was in computers at the time. Can you guess what he did?
Mom made the finest Sauerkraut on this side of the planet. She would do it with a pressure cooker of hours. Funny...but it was not sour. We ate it with most everything. Unfortunately she took the recipe with her. I have yet to find the flavor combo here in the states. Man...could use some now.

Kraut in your eggs for the morning Riptides? yum...
actually should add a sweet taste.

headed downtown to buy a lot of drinks and finger food for Saturday's event.
Going to Walmart first to buy coffee, selection is better, price is much better, thought I might
look around there a bit to see if the drinks are cheaper there too, which is likely.
and then you get to the checker.
Usually it's hard not to stare. I always wonder what the tattoos mean.
