Komatsu Dozer wont start

Pull the air inlet tubing and check for signs of dust in the intake tract. A leaking intake system will dust the cylinders, creating poor ring sealing and low compression pressure.

Diesel engines require good ring sealing and compression pressure to develop sufficient heat in the cylinder to ignite the fuel.

Poor cold starting is a first esign of a worn out power cylinder.

Don稚 be afraid to give a shot of starting fluid to get the thing running.

Is the engine shutdown manual or electric? I have a dresser TD9H which was also branded as a Komatsu. The engine throttle lever in the full forward position shuts down the engine. In the full forward position the lever engages a small electric switch that shuts fuel off inside the pump and shuts down the engine. When you pull the throttle lever back the switch opens. I left the lever in the shutdown position and the switch rusted closed. When I pulled the lever back to the start position the switch remained off and the engine would not start. It took me a while to track this down. A little WD40 and the switch was movable and the engine started. Jim

White/grey smoke also indicates not enough fuel being delivered to actually fire, just make smoke. You can also experience this when it is too cold. This thing have glowplugs? Are they working?

Im working on unsticking the throttle.. it does have glow plugs, but when its 95 degrees out, I wouldnt think to even see if they are heating. We are still leaning towards a fuel issue, whether it is low pump pressure or an injector issue

Our 2003ish Kubota B7500 needs the glow plugs to start even when we are doing hay.
Try them just to see.

This would be much easier if the service manual was half decent. Don稚 waste your money on a Komatsu manual folks

Don't fore*go the glow plugs BECAUSE its 90*'s outside.. THATS some bad think'n..
Its NOT 90* inside the engine.. the engine is "cold".. THATS WHY the GP's are there.. for "cold starts"..
Now once its started and ran, u might not need them.. BUT for cold starting u def. do..
Good luck.

Makes sense.. but, wouldnt a blast of starting fluid make up for a lack of glow plugs if they are bad?

Does the engine in question actually have glow plugs, or is it an electric intake grid?

I an mot familiar with any direct injection industrial engines with traditional glow plugs.

Indirect injection light duty , and direct injection pickup truck engines, yes, but not heavy duty industrial engines.

Man, you tell me and we will both know lol. The manual is absolute crap but I will verify tomorrow if I wake up in time before I leave for work
