My daughter once called me in a frenzy as she had a duck in her fireplace!
I caught it with my fish net, washed it (was a covered in soot) and
let it fly away.
I recall that it was a wood duck.
Wood ducks are one species that nest in trees so I suspect it was wanting to set up a nest.
Someone brought a movie projector over and they showed us a movie of the little baby ducks jumping out of the trees and bouncing on the ground, then running off after momma duck.
Hopefully they also said, 'Kids, don't do this. You won't bounce, but you will be hollerin' for Momma.'
