Broken exhaust manifold

I had the factory-updated, EPA-approved new muffler installed and it has lasted fine for 220+ hours (after the original muffler broke at about 30 hours). I do try to avoid 1900 rpm or lower, since that seems to be where the most vibration/cavitation occurs.

Dealer says musa is aware of the muffler problem and I will have to wait for their engineering solution...and no muffler in stock...anyway dealer is 45 min away and 5 acres of grass keeps growing an inch a day. I wired the muffler down securely in two places - 17 ga electric fence wire - and it stays tight at high rpms. Not happy but otherwise I think the emax was engineered well...hit a sweet spot in the subcompact class. I have not patented this broken muffler fix.

I don't think this is a muffler issue. My buddy and I both bought the emax25. Both on the same day. I haven't touched a muffler and he had his replaced and repaired a few times. They welded the original muffler twice, then replaced it with the newer version which included a bracket that goes to the alternator, and IT broke twice. Still waiting for the new muffler to come in. His tractor stays in a heated garage.
I looked at his engine when running just today (March21 2018). It shakes. It rattles.
My engine, even when it is cold outside and running rough until all of the cylinders fire, does not
shake at all. I took a video. I wish I could add it here, but I took it with my phone and can't transfer it here.
I think I would get the dealer to have a look at the motor mounts. When the snow finally is done for the year, he will be bringing his emax25 back to the dealer while still under warranty. I will post again if and when they find the problem.

One more thing. His tractor rattles at any rpm.

Keep the machine above idle... the rattle at idle is what causes so much to shake apart on this machine.. not even 500rpms makes a huge difference on these machines .. they do have a new design for the muffler havnt seen any of the replacements break but I don't doubt it

I agree. Mahindra should have set the minimum idle characteristics on this at the factory, because it takes very little extra rpm to make this three cylinder engine run with little vibration. All diesel engines vibrate more or less at different RPMs, and since this engine is rubber mounted to the frame rails the engine shakes. On the Max series (as opposed to the eMax) it is different, the engine/trans/rearend are all bolted together as a unit just like the big tractors. So you don't get much engine shake. In theory, the rubber isolates the operator from vibration, but it sure doesn't isolate the muffler.

As to eMax25's friend that has a rough running engine, for sure get that checked out at a dealer.

I am interested to see how the new Branson owned Kekie or however you spell it goes inside the new emax

We have sold over 100 Branson 2400's in the last few years, it uses the same little Kukje as they are now putting into the new eMax. it is for sure smoother. A good little engine. Kukje builds the A-series Cummins, they know how to build engines.

Good to hear!

I have an EMAX22GEAR I bought new in February of 2016. The first year, the loader bucket cracked and they replaced it. Last June, the original muffler failed where it attaches to the engine (first pic). Mahindra replaced it with their new "redesigned" muffler (2nd pic). After another 30 hours and 11 months, the pipe coming from the muffler just fell off (pic) These little engines just shake things apart. I'm concerned that I'll have trouble with this thing for years.

There is really no excuse for the muffler failures. But there is a way to keep it from happening, or at least drastically minimize it. Raise you minimum idle a bit and the engine smooths out. When you idle down, keep the revs up a couple hundred RPM. Rubber engine mounts are pretty common on ladder frame tractors. I suppose it is to isolate the vibration from the operator...but it sure doesn't isolate the vibration from the muffler. I'd ask Mahindra to supply you with another muffler and then keep the idle up.
