Maybe a bit off topic but, I damaged the plastic PTO shaft plastic safety cover chain attachment loop when I lifted the mower with the anti rotation chains attached and tore the tractor end chain off. Has anyone found a reliable repair for reattaching the chain to the plastic safety cover thingamajig? I'm always concerned regarding safety and those PTO shaft covers provide safety when they are properly attached.

A hose clamp. I used one to strap a chain to mine. The flimsy plastic loop on mine broke when I hung the shaft from that chain.

I hear its intentionally flimsy. That way the chain isnt whipping around if the shield jams & starts spinning.

The plastic covers are specific to the shaft manufacturer. But sometimes you can find them. AgriSupply has a lot of PTO shaft parts.

I took the covers off mine...makes greasing a lot easier. How the driveshaft could ever be a safety issue is beyond me. Who leans over a spinning driveshaft?

Ran my 72" Titan last night for 3 hours and today for 3 more. The welds I made last year are holding up, everything *seems* to be OK. I'm moving through some extremely dense and tall 4+ feet grass. Gotta watch out for fawns and baby birds hiding in the grass.

My chain broke off the same way and I left it off the last time, but planned to use a hose clamp as well.

The idea of an exposed spinning shaft just makes me nervous. I would likely never put myself in danger by engaging the PTO then getting off the tractor and deliberately leaning over the exposed spinning shaft while wearing a long necktie. But, there are those who might be less cognizant of the spinning machinery and could get hurt.

Agreed regarding greasing the PTO shaft.

I don't have a picture, but I have a different friend with some scrap metal and he welded some braces on and gave me a 5 minute lesson in welding to boot. After welding we pried on it a little with another scrap piece and I think it will be stronger than before. Strong enough? Only time will tell.

I have deer and foxes living in the forest/thicket behind my orchard. I see them from time to time but they are shy and keep their distance. I would sure hate to harm any of them. The fox came through the back yard near the house last year. He has a beautiful red tail. During winter, I would put out roasted chicken carcasses. He would carry them back to his lair. The deer were chewing on my newly planted fruit trees a year ago. Now, they are no longer interested since I began feeding them corn...smart deer.

I hate to say it but exactly that happened to me two years ago. Just couldn稚 see it in the tall grass.
