New Holland 555 skid steer, late 80's model. I got it about 2 years ago cheap with dead engine, got the engine rebuilt but due to busy schedule havn't got around to getting all the other little issues worked out. Lately I have a break from other duties and it's time to get it going and start putting in orchard/garden fencing. It's all working now except the hydraulic valve for the front end loader. The main lift works fine, but the tilt refused to work. After sitting awhile it does about 1/4 stroke and stops. Like something leaks down while sitting. I have had everything apart and checked out. Valve seems to work properly on air when it was out. Put it back in and tilt still will not work. Then I discovered that if the lift side of the valve is operating at the same time as tilt that the tilt then works. Simple enough system, but it sure is acting odd. Just a standard double spool loader valve. Has 2 return outlets, one runs through to an accessory valve when both spools are in neutral, the other dumps oil back to reservoir when either spool is used. It's like the oil return is blocked off on the tilt side spool when the lift side is in neutral position. But it was not blocked when valve was out and blowing air through the passages with air compressor. And there's a check valve on each spool on the inlet side, preventing back flow from cylinder to inlet.
