What is the recommendation on RPM when using a Belly Mower? I found info that contradicts what I was originally told. Just curious as to what everyone here recommends. Thanks

PTO RPM. That's where your powerband is on the engine. I only run mine slower if I'm worried about throwing a stone or something or am in relatively short/thin grass.

PTO RPM is the RPM the engine needs to run for the PTO to turn at the standard 540 RPM. On my tractor it's at about 3000 engine RPM. There is a mark on the tachometer on my dash at that point that says 540. If your gauge doesn't have a mark, your manual should tell you.

My Mahindra has a little gear on the tachometer where PTO RPM is.
I’m surprised the RPM is almost 3000. I guess the little engine in your machine likes to rev. A lot of diesels redline at 3000 RPM and PTO speed is lower- like 2200 RPM.

Mine isn't red, but the sweet spot speed is 2933.

I don't engage my mower (or anything else) at that speed though. I drop to 2K or so, engage, then ramp up.

Yeah, definitely. I always engage at or near idle.

I have 2011 Mahindra 3016, the last of the old school I guess, PTO "power take off" speed is over 2000 . . . .
