TODAYS SEAT TIME

Finally got some hay mowed these last few days and got 936 bales into the barn yesterday! Only about 400-500 more to fill the barn then onto the easier stuff next (round bales).

I double rowed the windrows because I thought I would be round baling most of this but we ended up with extra help so I squared baled all but 5 round bales worth. I really made the old square baler work and I had to have it in creeper gear for a good portion of it.

Very nice bazman,

I thought I was going to be baling about 1000 small bales but the guy buying them said he would prefer big bales. That's OK with me, less work for me and my tractor.

I'll be doing 3X4 bales around 1300 pounds.

I would prefer to do all round bales but we like having the square bales for the horses when we leave them in and for the goats. We normally like to put about 2000 in the barn but have started to use more round bales for the horses so now we only put about 1400 - 1500 in the barn. If I had some inside storage for the round bales then we would definitely do less squares and more rounds. Those must be some pretty tight round bales for a 3x4 to be 1300lbs. Our 4x4 bales are tight and I believe only weigh about 700-800lbs...but I never weighed any round bales so I am not entirely sure.

Here are a few photos I was able to take while cutting. My first time cutting in such heavy stuff and I wish I would've went a bit slower but oh well, I'm still learning.

My bales are the square 3x4's.

Nice thick field. Mine was thick this year also but not as tall as yours.

Your haybine looks a lot like mine. Mine is a 488, it's getting old and tired but it still works great.

Nice pictures! I need someone to take some photos like that while I cut but the wife would look at me weird if I asked...

We had a very wet last few months so the hay grew really good. The last 5 years or so we have had some crappy springs and haven't had any good 1st cuts so its finally a relief that the hay is heavier this year. We actually had to buy hay last year which was a first.

I use a NH 469 and NH 479. The photos are of the 479 but I had to finish up with the 469 because the bushing on the cutter bar of the 479 broke. I had about 25 mins left of cutting too. At times like those I am glad I have a back-up machine that I keep ready to go.

That's a nice set up you got. I like the rolling hills in the background and a decent size field of windrows you have there.
