Going to replace the wifes 2008 ford taurus limited with a used 2018 ford taurus limited with 11,000 miles with all wheel drive.Any thoughts on the new model. Her 2008 taurus has been bullet proof at 110,000 miles just like something a little newer.

I had a 2002 that I put 205,000 miles on without issues, I had a 2014 Limited AWD that I had 90,000 miles on no issues, The SHO had a PTU and axle replaced under warranty and nothing since.

I'd prefer a front-wheel drive. If you go for this AWD, get an extended warranty, as PTU problems are not uncommon.

I had a 1989 and a 1992 SHO, you are right, quite the car. I stopped buying them when they took away the manual transmission option.

Yamaha engines right? I have custom tunes in mine, she makes 425hp, what a sleeper, I climb huge long hills and it doesn't even think about down shifting.. The suspension handles the power just fine but I go easy on it because the power transfer unit is the weak link.. The regular 3.5 is not a problem for the PTU, it's the twin turbo ecoboost that can make it fail if one decides to hot rod around a lot..

Congrat's.. If you ever get a propane type smell in the cabin say at a stop light, you are leaking trans fluid from an axle seal or out of the PTU itself, not enough to drip on the ground probably but enough to burn on the exhaust.. If it was a major issue they would have recalled Taurus and Explorer's..

Did some reading on this my plan is to change the PTU fluid every 30,000 miles..
