The city has been building a sidewalk and they broke a fire hydrant tap off which was at the top of the hill. It washed away about 50 feet of the sidewalk they’d built.

Just left it there while calling the water company . . . and probably the locate company. 10" main can puke a lot of water out.

He couldnt get out of the cab for the water pressure. Luckily there was a detention basin across the street for the water to flow to.
Water company did the locate. Thats the fallacy of 811 not every company that has buried cable or lines subscribe to it.

Someone 15 miles down the road from me does this to some of his hay, I guess wrap it and get when ever is the idea.

Those are 12 bale loads and the bales weigh aprox 1,000 pounds each...

SO, 12,000 pounds per load x 5 loads = 60,000 pounds, divided by 2 = 30 tons... (1 ton = 2,000 pounds)

So, 60,000 pounds divided by 50 pounds = 1,200 small squares and that's LOT'S of small squares! AND is exactly why I refuse to do small squares any longer!!

SR
I see you use lot less ink doing your math, but when people buy hay, dont they want small bales? So if you have 1,200 bales X $3.00/bale that adds up to a lot of $$$$, according to my arithmeticking.

Anymore, most want big bales, they are much easier to work with, and much easier to feed their horses. And these days, most folks have a tractor of some kind to move them...

You make more money selling small squares, but all the extra labor makes it not worth it, and every big bale that I make, is sold before I even make it!!

Depends SR . . . if they are just a hobby farmer/rancher . . . they would want the smaller bales, at least most in my neck of the woods.

It's easy to sell big rounds, so why go through all the expense and work of small squares?

I use to do small bales years ago, but there's just no longer the need to work so hard for my money anymore...

I'd rather let my tractor do all the work!

Even hobby farmers here, buy big rounds...

I see that up here, also. The drawback is that crows like to land on them, putting holes in the plastic and causing a lot of spoilage. One deterrent is to run string along both sides of the row high enough so that their wings would hit it.

I want small bales when I'm mulching ditches and culverts... 1200 lbs of hay is a bit of overkill. I suppose that it would be easy though, all I would need to do is unroll them.
