I ALWAYS have mine up except when putting it to bed as the door is too low, even on flat ground I have had a wheel in the air especially when using the FEL and I see local farmers tearing around with a full bucket way up in the air.

Always a good reminder. I do have a couple of older tractors that should be retrofitted.

?

The three cases referenced in the video were about a pre-ROPS tractor or one that had the existing ROPS removed by the 'owner' (because it wouldn't fit in a former shed, it wasn't re-installed after a shed that it would fit in was built).

Nothing about a fully deployed folding ROPS failing/folding.

This reminds me. (Thank you to the OP for posting.). I need to get a longer seatbelt on my JD 990. It is long enough, just barely, for me, but not long enough for my wife. Any suggestions on where I can get a longer one? I値l call the dealer when they open and ask if they have any. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can buy seat belt extenders.

They come in fixed lengths, and some are adjustable.

Amazon has them.

Yikes! A JD belt is about $200. Northern Tool has some for $30. I値l stop there tonight and look at those.

As long as we're preaching about safety, also consider a more healthier option.

Tractor deaths , including rollovers, cause about 130 deaths annually. Any guesses on what the 2nd leading cause of death in the U.S. is, that kills 300,000(!) Americans annually? Relatively, I wouldn't be too worried about the seatbelts.

But why risk it when it takes a matter of seconds to buckle the belt?

that's true, you might just be made a quadriplegic, like Christopher Reeve, at least you'll live, and never have to do anything yourself anymore!..

I have a sunshade on my M7060 so the ROPS is always up, however I need to be wearing my seatbelt more.

ROP without the seatbelts just means that instead of the entire machine making you a pancake, the ROP will fold you into a taco shell.

I wonder if a traditional roll bar would have helped in that last situation.

Just saw a guy mowing a steep road side ditch with a decent sized tractor.

His folding ROPS was of course, in the down position.

I feel sad for the families. But, it's hard to feel the same for people who choose to be so unnecessarily reckless, and fail.

that's not just reckless, that's absurdly stupid:banghead: families are better off without people like that.. they can get others killed too..

This thread made me think that I really need to do something about the seat belt on my 4410. The webbing has worn through on the male buckle part and the retract mechanism seems to be permanently retracted at this point. So just for fun I looked up the part in John Deere parts. $264.xx CAD. Cough cough.

Thanks for the seat belt link. I found one on there for about $48 USD (roughly $75 CAD). It has a retracting mechanism that looks like it will do the job. I can even order the color of webbing I want.

And the answer is?

Probably heart disease. Which has many contributing factors. I assume he was referring to taking care of ones health as poor health will cause more problems than seat belts. I may be wrong though.
