Only a YM14 MkII
Long time no here. I sold my property last year along with my 1500 which was a sad day. I miss it dearly. Moved interstate and brought the YM14 with me in case I bought some land again but we settled on a large suburban block so it wasn't needed either so I sold it a few weeks ago too. They were both great machines for me for 10 odd years and I can't express enough how tough and reliable these little Yanmars are. I'll still hang around and pipe up on a thread from time to time still as this is a great little community.

Always enjoy your posts, a few years back you guided me through changing from a dynamo to an alternator on my old 2002D. I would still be working on it if not for your help.

Man I hate to hear you sold them!! I wondered why we hadn't heard from you more.

Must be hard to get rid of your land and all your stuff like that.

Please drop in every chance you get. Just like Winston. Just because you don't own a Yanmar, Still there will be times your help and opinion will be needed.

Yanmar makes some great marine engines, time to buy a boat. I overhauled a 3HM 27HP engine for a sailboat of mine years ago. Well built motor. Overhauled a Kubota (Universal Marine) for a later boat. Thought the Yanmar the better of the two engines.

I would suggest that Yanmar is the gold standard of marine engines.

Marine engines - including big ones - are Yanmar's primary line of business. I think the absolute reliability critical for small offshore fishing vessels in Japan, applies to the ag tractors with the same basic engines.

My cousin spent a summer in Alaska in commercial salmon fishing. When he heard my 2-cylinder YM240 he said that has to be the same engine he heard run all summer. I looked it up. Yep, the only difference I saw was for seawater cooling. I also found that engine was used for the refer units on semitrailers and ocean containers where it will run at load, unattended, for an expected life measured in years.

That should give people an idea of life of these small engines. A small fishing boat may run 12-20 hours a day 6-7 days a week. That engine will last a long time like that. Or a refrigeration trailer engine that runs all the time for years before a rebuild. Think of how many years in your farm tractor that you would have to rack up to equal say 7 years on a refrigeration unit running for weeks or months at a time.
