Good evening, The left brake on my John Deere 5075e is hanging up causing excessive heat when performing field work, does anyone know of a quick fix for this or am I looking at a complete teardown? Thx for any responses.

Is it hanging up after you use the brake or it's trying to stop on it's own?

The brake is "hung up" or out of adjustment regardless of peddle usage, its not enough to stop the tractor but can certainly tell when stopped acceleration. I "shot" each axle with a temp gun and there was definitely a temp difference I want to say it was about a 15 degree variance from the right side. I tried bleeding the brakes which did stiffen the peddle but didn't help "release" the hung brake. There has been a time where I will have to pump the brakes several times upwards of 5 or 6 to get pressure back at the peddles.

My guess is brake disk release springs(key 1) has failed which requires rear axle housing R&R to correct problem. There are 3 springs on each side of tractor. My friend had to perform that task on a 5210 yrs back. You should check to be sure brake pedals pivot freely on attaching pin.

The OM say's brakes are out of adjustment when dragging like that. Tx Jim could be right too.. IDK.

I had something very similar. With both pedals locked - mash down on the pedal - tractor pulled to the left. Required adjustment and then all was well.

I can't seem to find the specs for adjusting the brakes on this tractor, does anyone have the procedure handy? My operators manual doesn't have the procedure, it says to consult the dealer. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK - I've got a Kubota but, at least, you can check and see if this might solve your situation. The adjustment I can make is NOT actually to the brake calipers. It's an adjustment to the length of the brake activation rods. Goes from the pedal rod to the lever on the outside of the brake enclosure. It ensures that when you mash down on the locked brakes it will activate the lever and then the calipers on the inside to the same amount on each side. If the two brake pedals aren't locked together - it doesn't make so much difference.

If it were something inside the brake enclosure - I'd have to get a shop manual. I currently don't have a shop manual.

Does that part have a history of failure? I'd like to think that I may never have this problem.

IIRC earlier 5000 series models had a history of brake return spring failure.
