Kubota L6060, Wright StanderX 61”
About ready to pull the trigger on a new tractor. Down to a MX5800 or L6060. Very familiar with both just wondering if anyone regrets not spending the extra $5100 to buy the L6060 or comparable model to an MX they own?

Most videos and reviews say the MX series are heavier duty or an in between of L and M but I can not see it. The L6060 weighs more, lifts 100lbs more with the loader and 650 lbs more with the 3pt plus has a slightly more efficient transmission and more hp.

Both will do what I need to do but for the price difference I could buy a new grapple, pallet forks, medium duty cutter, and box blade. I have looked at and sat on both and they are both excellent machines. I love the HST+ transmission and other features but once again wrestle with the fact that this will only get used a handful of times each week and both will work. One will just have a lot more creature comforts and slightly more capacities.

Is there anything I am missing or not considering?

Don't know what a L6060 is, but I love my MX 5100. They are straight up work horses.

In 1982 we moved down from Alaska to our 80 acres here in Ea WA. I bought a brand new 1982 Ford 1700 4WD. By 2009 I had finished all the smaller projects. I found that the was NO Class 1 rear blade heavy enough to penetrate my mile long gravel driveway when it turns to concrete in the summer. Plus I had projects requiring greater FEL/grapple abilities.

I looked at the MX, the L & the M series. I choose the M series. A M6040 to be exact. It will easily handle Class 2 implement. My Rhino 950 rear blade @ 1100# is what I need to blade the summer driveway. I've only ever had open station tractors. I've used cabbed tractors and just don't like them. Open station allows a better view - I enjoy being out in the fresh air, even in our winters - the money saved helped in the purchase of some expensive implements. Wallenstein BX62S chipper & Rhino 950 rear blade.

Besides - I will never need a bush hog rotary cutter. If I would need a rotary cutter - well, then it would be a totally different matter. I've seen the Devil Dust Storm they raise around this area and I know I couldn't withstand an open station in those conditions.

I choose the M6040 because - larger frame, heavier tractor, bigger FEL lift numbers, easily handle Class 2 implements.

I have never regretted my decision.

I have also looked at the M series. I know they have a lot more capacity and I could get an M7060 with the 12 speed ps for very close to the same price as the L6060. Problem is my work for the next couple years is all clearing land on the sides of hills, in the trees, and a decent amount of fencing. I like the PS transmission but not sure it would be the best for current work. I could actually get an M5660 for the same or similar price as the MX. But I just don’t think the PS would work as well on the sides of hills while clearing brush. No doubt they are a lot more tractor for the same money.

Ughhhh... I thought I had eliminated the M series but now I’m back to thinking about that 50% greater loader lift capacity and substantial weight increase... for the same money.... :banghead:

I don't own an MX, but looked them before buying my used L5030HSTC. Because of health issues I now have to have a cab so no MX. it didn't have the HSTC+, but I can't say I missed anything. I later bought a new L5740HSTC+ to avoid the L60 Series and I love the HSTC+. Fortunately I didn't have to choose the GrandL over equipment as I have it already, but the MX will do anything the L6060 will and, absent health issues, I would have to go with the MX and equipment.

I would also spec out similar tractors from Kioti etc.

Thanks for the feedback TripleR. I have actually owned a Kioti CK4010SE. It was a great tractor.Just not nearly big enough. I just won’t buy another. Unless you can pay cash the comparable NX series is nearly the price of the kubota. I’m an active duty Air Force officer and we move every few years. I had a difficult time selling the Kioti while the two Kubotas I’ve owned over the years were very easy to sell. You can bank finance the Kiotis but at 5-6% interest over 5 years you’d end up paying more then a new Kubota. I do really like Kiotis there just isn’t nearly a large enough market in my opinion if you have to sell (which we’ve done several times). I’m 4 years from being able to retire so this time we plan to buy new and keep it “forever” haha. I laugh because we’ve moved 11 times in the last 16 years so we don’t know what forever is actually like. Especially since I may be approaching retirement eligibility but I probably won’t retire for 14 more years :duh:

The MX and the Grand L6060 have the same exact loader, which is the LA1055. I also was looking at the MX5800, then I was going to get the Grand L 6060, but for just a little bit more money and a lot more tractor, I stepped up to the M7060. I’m very glad I did, they have a strong loader and Cat 2 implements are a big step over Cat 1. I do think that Kubota sure has the Grand L prices on the high side. They really are expensive. After pricing out the L6060, the M7060 made way more sense.

First, thank you for your service. No disagreement on the resale of Kioti vs Kubota. I got back what I paid for my L5030HSTC and it sold before the dealer put it on the lot. My brother had to go out of state to buy hif "forever", but he hauls his own equipment as well as service and repair.

Good luck with your decision making.

I, also, appreciate your service to our country and the lifestyle required for so many relocations. In my particular experience - I never realized, in the beginning, that a larger tractor would be required. I simply didn't understand that the Ford 1700 wouldn't/couldn't grade the driveway in the summer. Likewise - I never realized I would be using a grapple to move large rocks and chunks of Ponderosa pine. Class 2 implements are/can be so much heavier than Class 1 and get you into an area where many projects go so much easier. Or where a project can go as you would like and not have to be chopped into many smaller subproject.

I see all these pictures of properties being cleared of undergrowth and trees. My 80 acres has VERY LITTLE of this. It's wide open grass lands with stands of ancient Ponderosa pines scattered here and there. Navigation around my property with a larger tractor and a large, heavy implement on the 3-point is very easy.

If you are looking for a "forever" tractor - look down the road 10, 15 - even 20 years. What you buy today will, with proper service, be there to serve you - long into your future.

And, good luck with whatever choice you make.
