Ford mileage claims sparks lawsuit

There were questions being asked about the claimed mpg numbers for the Ford Ranger. Then, TFL went on a 1000 trek to log mpg numbers.....hmmm...not so good. Yes, they talk about Ford's method of figuring mpg.

Real-world 219 Ford Ranger Fuel Economy: Here Is the Unexpected Result after a 1, Mile Road Trip (Video) - The Fast Lane Truck
I remember that video. After watching it I felt like I was duped into click bait. :) A 1000 mile test drive, all up hill and into the wind, and at speeds of 75 - 80 much of the time except when they were maneuvering through snow and ice. And they used the word "SHOCKER" in their video title. Hmmm. Why not make the return trip and get a real average? But it was a real trip as long as the conditions are considered when reviewing the results.
I get better than EPA with almost every truck I drive, mainly due to coasting a little sooner when approaching stops and because my travels are mainly 55 - 60 mph. If I go above 60-65 range, I see my mpgs drop immediately.

Look guys - this is me. I'm 77 and am having to be drug into this dam digital age by my heals. For the first 3700 miles or so - I didn't even know the mpg calculator was part of the digital dash. Yes - for the first 3700 miles I did manual calculations. At 1500 miles I was getting 16 mpg. From 1500 to around 5200 it's been 18.1 mpg.

Every time my son comes out and plays with the programs in the Taco Wagon - I learn more. Just yesterday I found that I can check - engine coolant temps & auto trans oil temps thru a digital readout on the secondary display. I don't have to rely on the analog display for these temps. I've learned how to zero out and set the multiple trip logs.

So my very nice Samsung flip phone would not "pair up" with UConnect - I had to spend $800 for an Apple XR iPhone. And Apple iTunes doesn't like that I want to listen to - Guns-N-Roses, the Oak Ridge Boy, Charlie Daniel band, Men at Work or Alabama. It wants me to listen to some weird a*sed crapola. Sirius XM Travel Link keep suggesting that I "take a trip"

And the one time I tried to "pair up" my new Apple iPhone and make a hands free call to my son - I got SiriusXM Emergency Services.

BUT - I can start the Taco Wagon and it drives very nice. I figured out how to adjust the ten-way driver's seat and lock the setting into Memory 1.

At least, now, when the digital display turns on - it doesn't look like some Carnival side show display to me. I'm getting there.

I didn't watch the Ranger video, but 19.1 is still better than what I had heard they are pulling in. Still, my neighbors have several F150s which are pulling down 23 mpg.
Of course they drive like little old ladies, rarely going over 50mph.
Even at the posted mileages why would anybody want to drive a Ranger when the F150 is so close to the same mileage? I like the truck, and my dog would be much safer in the back seat of the Ranger...just as he is in the back of my 2004 Ranger vs my Silverado, although the latter rides better and consistently gets better mileage.

No complaints from me! And yes, within 2/10's of hand calculated.
I checked my new Silverdo with pen and paper, same thing, puter is almost spot on!

Best part is, I'm averaging 20.5 mpg pulling my tractor from job to job with a V8!

I'm very happy with the pulling power it has...

I am not sure how people get the mileage they say. Sometimes I don稚 believe it or it was a one time thing. I own a 2017 F150 5.0 4x4 Supercab. I once got 27 mpg driving 70 mph for probably 300 miles. 20 mph tail wind. My truck had average about 17 mpg since I have owned it mixed driving.

Mpg claims seem like top speeds claimed by people, they just get higher and higher.

I have a F250 with V10 gas with manual transmission. Bought it used four years ago. I don't put many miles on it, maybe 5,000 per year. Right now the computer shows my mileage is probably little over 11 miles per gallon. Yet I made a trip of about a 100 miles with mileage over 18 mpg. It was cool day so no a/c. Mostly four lane road with light traffic so little start and stopping but planned slow downs and slow acceleration with 60 mph being top speed.

My trip was real and accurate mpg...just not real life driving. Total effort to see what kind of mpg I could milk out of it.

Do have two ex over road truck driver friends who each have F150 V6 with echo boost and they will each tell how they get great mileage pulling camper one and the other on interstate running 70 plus.

Maybe the same reasons I bought a Dakota years ago instead of a Ram or F150 - my garage was too small. Even now, if I drove in the city much, I would rather have a Ranger than my F150 - hard to get over how big trucks are today.

I've been driving for well over half a century now. I don't LIKE the sound of THAT. I've learned one thing - the mileage I'm going to get with ANY vehicle I drive has as much to do with the way I drive as with the vehicle. The mileage calculator on the Taco Wagon MAY NOT be nuts on. I KNOW it's as close to being accurate as I am doing it manually. That all I can ask.

coobie - my son & I have had some "animated" discussions regarding the programs on the Taco Wagon AND on my new Apple iPhone. He has a degree in computer engineering, has had these newer "Smart" phones for years and can't understand why I can't pick up on all of them with one "go thru".

At first he could not understand why I won't be extending most of this free stuff, on the Taco Wagon, beyond the introductory period. When I asked if he would pony up the $475 annual fee for all this stuff - he understood. I just DON'T NEED - the travel, security, traffic, Apple Play, Traffic Plus etc, etc programs. I don't use them now - I sure won't use them a year from now.

And now, I have three GPS units. The one built in to the Taco Wagon digital dashboard ( Garmin ). It has no annual fee. A hand held Garmin GPS unit. The BMW Motorrad Nav V( Garmin ) that will work on the motorcycle or anywhere else. However - a long held theory I have - - as long as there is gas in the tank, you are never lost.

Sixty + years of driving - I've never once run out of gas. A little "trip planning" goes a long way.

2016 F150 Supercab, 6.5' bed, with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. Ordered this truck so owned it since it was new. With the 36 gallon gas tank it can go over 700 miles between fuelings. About 450 of these 708.5 miles were at freeway speeds (speed limit 80 around here), the remainder just commuting around here:

Love this truck. Not a single problem to report in the 3 years I've owned it.
