Gotta get good NY apples (Gala, Johnagold, Empire, Crispin, Evercrisp, etc), not Washington State flavorless apples.

Yeah we keep the good ones to ourselves... suckers! :D Yeah we grow Gala as well... but you need to slice up a Fuji or a Granny Smith to appreciate a fine Washington varietal.

Suppose you will try to put your wine up against ours too! Good luck with that one.

Now hold on. You might be referring to Red Delicous which is a commercial variety and I agree not much flavor, but all the varieties you mention grow here and MANY MORE. :D

So biggest MYTHCONCEPTION posted to date is that NY grows better apples than WA. Completely incorrect  WA grows the best apples :apple: :apple: :apple: :apple: , always has

Good point that New York state has the best apples. Well, maybe the Cortlands from Maine are a notch above. Nothing like a crisp and fresh Maine Cortland.

Fruit and veggies from most supermarkets are so hit or miss. Im lucky enough to have apple trees, blueberry bushes and a garden. I like the mutsu apples and granny smiths. My Dad has a bunch of black caps by him, and there's state land with low bush blueberries near too. My wife will give me the business about not eating fruit over the winter, but I hate stuff out of season. No flavor.

SIL invited friends over for grilled steaks. He went out and bought the best. When he served them, one person proceeded to put lots of A1 sauce on it before tasting it. He will not serve that person an expensive steak again.

If the steak had been seared on the grill it will taste like a piece of black burnt toast to me, and there isn't a condiment in the world that can cover up the taste. And once I get that burnt flavor in my mouth everything will taste burnt including the salad.

Washington State apples vs New York State apples? Pshaw!

Google "The Apple Isle"... go on, I'll wait.

Oh, and a wedge of mature (12 month) cheddar cheese with a slice of apple pie is the best.

I have given up on Apple's and every other fruit from the grocery stores. Bleh! Taste is nonexistent. The Fruit and Veggie Man brings fresh stuff up from Cali several times a summer as it comes in to season. 4 days travel time beats anything in the stores. I would love tasting an heirloom apple with flavor. Lucky Man.
I was a member of a Garden club for awhile and one of the trips we took was to an agricultural research center where they worked on improving the fruits. What they were working on was shipping ability, color, disease resistance, etc. and they especially pointed out that flavor was not a consideration.

I think Apples, I think Michigan and MacIntosh.

Only place I ever heard of cheddar on pie was in Northern MI.

My Dad, born and raised in Oklahoma, took a job in the Social Security offices in Baltimore, MD, when I was a baby. Mother and Dad told lots of stories about food up there that was different from what they were used to. And being asked whether you wanted a slice of cheese on apple pie was just one of those things never heard of in Oklahoma and Texas. I tried it once, and decided once was enough.

Live in MD, never heard of cheese on pie.
Sounds awful.
