Why do people not want to work?

You also have to consider that I worked 28 years as a self taught electronic engineering technician from a wheelchair, I didn't have to work at all. A few years after a motorcycle accident that left me para pelagic, my father offered to buy me a car so to learn how to drive with hand controls, payment for the car was that I was to take a course of my choice at my local vocational school and get a job which I did.

This was not an easy thing to do in the 70's, everything was a challenge, the hardest challenge was to find the right person with the right mindset to actually hire someone that many thought was supposed to be in an institution.. Seems to me less and less people have backbone these days..

Pity isn't something anyone is going to receive from me easily.

Before I retired I went to work every day and not once did I consider myself a sucker for paying taxes, completing a day of quality work and providing for my family just like my grandfather and father did before me.. I didn't care what the feds and state taxes were going to, all I knew is I was doing what I was taught to do, there is no shame is pulling you're own weight..

Amen!

Edit: I posted the above before reading your next comment-

Now I'm speechless... a state of mind which most who know me would say is impossible.

This is an example of attitude that keeps America great!

I had a Democrat friend (long since passed on to his final reward ) who constantly tried to convince me that there were people who were so dumb, careless and incompetent that it was better and cheaper for the government to pay them to stay out of the way and not mess things up by trying to maintain an honest job.

I never bought that then and still don’t but I could and still do see where he was coming from.

Absolutely. I agree 100%. What yanked my chain, was when some incompetent was promoted or given a raise based on political loyalty; or when my property taxes went up to build a Taj Mahal High School, or when some redneck Bubba gave me a ticket in a speed trap. There will always be unfairness in all endeavors, and there will always be someone in the family that needs taken care of...either by us, or by the government. It's "unfair", I know, and I assumed that parental support would end one day, but what do I know.
Dealing with incompetents at work irratates me more than taxes. It boggles my mind thinking how many people are in in important jobs (think power grid, education, law enforcement, healthcare) and either barely able or unable to perform their duties. Put their on the buddy system, politics, because of race or sex.

We had people in an hourly paid mechanic shop I worked in that we told to sit there and not touch anything or we would kick their asses. It was easier to have them sit around and ride other people's tickets than to fix their f ups.

They should have been fired...............

How do you fire someone from life?

Well, I guess that's not Christian.

I enjoy reading your creative financial philosophy. :)

Thanks, but it is not glamourous. I alluded to this before, but we took it on the chops when we moved into this old dilapidated Tiny House. Not ONE PERSON thought it was a good idea, which is really scary. The system is so messed up that people would rather live in a nice house, then get $174,000 cash.

Goodness gracious a person would have to work for 5 years in a traditional job to get that kind of money (factoring in the costs of working). That would mean I would be away from home most of the time, and in 5 years time, my daughters will be 11, 17,18 and 19. NO THANK YOU! I will gladly trade a nice home for 5 years with my daughters growing up! (ages 6, 12,13 and 14)

But that is the really sad thing. Many people on here tout up work ethic, and shame people like me that have retired early, yet when they get to be 70 years old, they look back on all those years away from the people they love and wonder why they were always at work? No thank you! I will gladly make deep sacrifices so I can work for, and work around, my family. That is not laziness; that is working hard for the things that matter.

This Tiny House will be nice in a few years. In the meantime, I will be around my wife and children as I fix it up. I call that a win-win, even if it comes disguised as a humble abode.
