Why do people not want to work?

Perspective, Mate.

6 acres is a lot if all you've known is a city/suburb Lot.

Absolutely. We read posts on here daily from members that purchase 3 or 4 or 5 acres. They are trying to figure out how they are going to manage it all and how big of tractor they need to buy and what type of attachments they need. Totally overwhelms them.

My yard I mow is 3 acres. :)

Yep... even an acre in a dense metro area can be amazing and seem like another world.

I wonder if the Information Super Highway ever made it to Hooterville? I bet Arnold would have been the first to have an I-Phone.

After growing up on the farm, it felt like vacation going off to college, working 50-60hrs per week and going to school full time. School was 7am-1pm, Monday-Friday. I worked evenings and weekends. It was like a vacation compared to summer at home on the farm. After a couple of years, I was the evening service writer and Sunday service writer. Saturdays, I did whatever was needed in shop, from batteries to mufflers to AC. Sears Roadhandler tires were heavy but I did my share of tires too. I started at $1.35 per hour in 1977 at the Sears gas station, then moved inside and did batteries. Got a raise to $2.15/hr and it was mostly shaded. When I left Sears (graduated college and got a job with computer company), I was making $7.95/hr.

I got to pick my Sunday crew, most of my guys were 17-19, taking classes at Arizona automotive.. Several of them would come in even when they were not scheduled, just in case I could give them a few hours. All of them worked hard and did good work. They drove beaters, shared apts, car pooled when they could, anything to save money and make more so they could finish school and get a full time job.

It really hasn't changed, those that hustle and learn can get ahead.

I talked to a guy yesterday who has one arm. Not sure what happened to him as to why but thought it was very cool that he has a full time job working for a major electrical component company and he hunts and fishes. What an inspiration to everyone who knows him. People do have limitations, it's how they are handled that determines the outcome. The only person holding anyone back is themselves.

Some people have the ability to adapt and overcome some don't, inner strength and a positive attitude to challenge is key.

It really comes down to being able to make it not working...

The programs are immense once you are plugged in at a major metro area and many fear losing if they were to be employed and for some the fear is real...

One of the single family homes I managed had a woman in her 50's that just completed her Masters 3 years ago with tremendous network of support while on Section 8...

I would ask how the job search was going and the last time she said she is no longer looking... the job offers were 50 to 60k and she said it would have be more like a 100k to make it worth her time... and she is probably right...

Free family Medical, a $3,000 a month single family home with gardener for $150 a month, $10 High Speed Internet, discounted Utilities, Tuition Assistance, Before and After School meals, WIC Food Vouchers, Special Programs for the kids due to low income status... etc.

Just saying it is not a mystery when you do the math.

AND... not to make this Political, but, the Democrats are adding to the numbers with all if the illegal aliens coming in. I'm not against immigrants, pls, but we are getting sssooo many that we are going to collapse our economy very soon.
I know we need to share, God gave us a lot, but when the number of welfare recipients become greater than the people working for a living... something needs to be done about it !

Enough said on a political sense.

I don't blame people for not working when they can get more than work wages, but when you turn down a job because it only pays 60K$, there is a problem.

I was laid off at 50 years of age, (seems like a long time ago), I had to take a job that paid 30K less than I was making because it was the only job a fifty year old quality engineer could get, there was a new revolution in reducing the number of quality people in a company. I did it because I could get by on less money, I got lucky and worked my way back up the money ladder, took on the jobs that were needed to get there.

Back to the OP question, "Why do people not wan to work...(and to add) to get what the need" !

My daughter, God Bless her, works a 32 hour job, for benifits, and two On-Line jobs, one as a "Graphics Designer," creating Web Pages for the Winery Businesses in SoCal, and one as a "Down-Loadable Graphics Company" working with a friend creating graphics that people want and need and let them download them for a price. To me that is really three jobs but she works to get what she wants and needs as most of us did. Why can't others do this... at least help take some of the load off the system.

Ok I'm done both bragging about the daughter and complaining about the Welfare System.

Thanks for reading, God Bless and the United States !

There are those that take, and there are those that give... :confused3:
