If you head to Western NY, make sure you get a garbage plate. You may not need your next 3 meals.... I hated driving my one son to college, but that made it reasonable.

Been to several places to eat in FL because I have a house down there, tried some different southern dishes and have yet to find anything I would eat again..

The coast of ME and MA cooking is pretty tough to beat.. When I visit my mom in MA it's hard to decide were we are going to eat, there are so many good places..

Just noticed this thread.. I'm a very plain eater. I don't like food when some "chef" tries to. Put their own spin on something. If I want a cheeseburger..I want just that..a cheeseburger. I don't want someone adding some special sauce, goat cheese, special seasoning, special topping, bla bla bla.. plain ole cheeseburger and I will add the condiments as I choose. Nothing .nothing ...aggravates me more than going out to dinner somewhere and ordering a basic sirloin steak ....only to have it come out with a pile of crap on it that I didn't want. ..I think most of these "chefs" pile all the garbage on food because they are unable to cook a simple meal that tastes good.

I do not like fusion cooking, too many unexpected surprises and mainly unpleasant.
Remember a chicken curry which was a grilled chicken fillet covered in a curry sauce and a pile of rice, not quite the same.

And rarely made correctly... IMO.

Glad we agree...most yankees don't have a clue how to cook grits...There's not much to it the only difference is the consistency they are cooked to...you can always ask for a texture you prefer...

I like them so they blend well with poached eggs on toast with or without a dollop of hollandaise...

I make several versions, but use Dixie Lilly yellow grits for all. Breakfast grits should never be runny; shrimp and grits should be made with whole milk, not water; and NEVER use instant grits... gotta cook them 15 to 20 minutes.

I'm the same way. My cupboard has a few basic spices, then oil, vinegar, and real dairy butter. The only thing that a good steak needs is a light sprinkling of pepper, then maybe a few onions and mushrooms on the side. Most "cooking" these days seems to be done with too much sugar and other fillers. Why ruin a good chicken breast with "breading"?

Most cooks these days try to invent the wheel and fail miserably, we cook better food at home than you can buy out but sometimes it's nice to give her a break..

To my way of thinking there is not much point to going out to a restaurant and ordering the same thing you can cook at home. And then be unhappy because you can do it better. We never go to places like that. We go to restaurants that have menus beyond what we can or want to do at home. Thai, Korean, fish and chips, Peruvian, Japanese, are current examples here in Sacramento.
