The AR15 is the modern day equivalent to the musket rifle from the late 1700's.

It is the reason the 2A was written.

God forbid we ever need to push out a tyrant or invading force, but if we do, you will want an AR15.

Militia works with regular army so it is beneficial that you have a rifle that military armory has plenty of ammo and magazine's for. Also, all parts except the fire control group are interchangeable with the M16.

In its base configuration, the AR15 is easily operated by most people over the age of 12.

It is a great all around self defense and sporting rifle.

Exactly......and unfortunately fewer and fewer folks understand that.......

Not to mention... it is light weight, very smooth shooting with almost no muzzle rise, easy to learn and operate, parts and accessories are massively available and affordable with no real need for gunsmith customization and they are hunting level accurate. Even cheap cobbled together units.

I've had AR-15 variants from Bushmaster, S&W, Charles Daly Defense, STAG (even a left handed model!), Colt and BCM. All worked great, all shot great, all were interchangeable in performance and did every single thing one would expect from a product like this. Dang, I miss them. Just call 911.

The only problem with calling 911 is when seconds count the police are minutes away.

.I do own one AR frame, the S&W MP22, bought it when they first came out. A previous poster asked if they were any good and I would answer that they are a ball to shoot!. When I got mine, it came with 1 25 round mag, I bought a second one while there, then they had an offer to get two more free, so I got those. They can be a bit finicky to load but once you get the hang of it, no problems.
I finally got around to getting two 10 round magazines and they are about all I ever use any more, since I'm more about accuracy than spray and pray.

The rifles are a lot more accurate then I had expected them to be.

As a reloader, one advantage is the cheap 5.56 brass. Makes up some for the lost brass when using one.

They are cheap to shoot. I purchased 6000 Hornady 55 gr SP bullets for just over $400 delivered a couple of years ago. My reloads are about $3.50/box.

After buying a few AR's, I added a Howa Mini-Mauser bolt action in .223 for "normal" use. It is light handy rifle that does not scream mall-ninja. But there may be a time when a battle rifle will be needed and the AR is a good choice. If that never happens, they are still an accurate, effective, and fun to shoot gun that can easily be switched to other calibers if so desired. And their value will only escalate. An AR is a good gun to own for many reasons.

Thanks for all the posts.. Considering what I have read here and everywhere else I don't think I really want to be taking an AR apart other than to clean it. I have a few 22 rifles that are tack drivers so I think I have decided on a M&Pョ15 SPORT II with MAGPULョ MOEョ M-LOK 223..

Looks like $500 buys one. I am not willing to spend more than that on one, any more than that and I have a tendency to gravitate towards 30 year old pretty wood..

I shoot single right handed with a handgun, I have no stomach muscles so I have to balance holding onto my wheelchair with my left hand while shooting a handgun. A rifle or shotgun is not a issue because I can rest my left elbow on my armrest which acts like a bench.

I have been shooting a Walther 40cal for a while this way and decided to buy a Walther PPS Mod 2 LE edition 9mm for carry, I'm glad I did, I can control it better.

My question is carry ammo, the local gun shop has some Federal HST 150gr for short barrel guns, I'm new to 9mm, what do you carry in sub compact 9mm, 115, 124, 147 or 150gr?

Being in a wheel chair sure changes things, I can no longer stand on my own, so all shooting is sitting and I'm still in the process of finding what works best as my guns were accumulated while I could still walk

In 9mm, over 140 gr are subsonic (less then 750 fps). These are great for suppressed firearms but are not the best choice for self protection.

Studies I have read indicate that a 115 gr hollow point bullet with a maximum standard load or a +p load is a good combination of weight and speed.
This results in shock trauma and around 9 inches of penetration into ballistics gel.

Cor bon makes a +P load and Hornady also makes some good self defense loads.

Obviously there are others but those are what I have experience with.
