AR Rifles..

I disagree. Although I always thought the, guns don't kill people, people kill people thing. It's not the same I know, but kind of like buying a car that does 200 MPH. That's what it was built and designed for. Sooner or later, most are going to do that. Not many mass shootings happen with a hunting rifle with bunnies engraved on the buttstock. It's the whole package, so to speak. Mass killing with a MILITARY ASSAULT RIFLE. If that is going to be your probably only and final show to the world of your power (or lack thereof) better make a good show of it!

Remember, OP wanted to keep this an educational not political thread.

Not political. I think why people do what they do has immense educational value and in this case why nut cases choose an AR.

The AR is nice for multiple calibers. It can be switched easily from 556 to 6.8SPC , to 458 SOCOM, to...
Most other rifles you are tied to one cartridge/caliber.

I get all that, I buy things I'm going to use, If I have a use for something I buy it.. I was looking for a good reason for me to spend money on one, haven't heard one yet.. An AR in 22lr would be fun so I'll look into those..

I could never understand them but lot of my coworkers started buying them and talking about accuracy, low recoil, and inexpensive ammo. My boss has been shooting competition nation wide for years and has several. Another bought one after his first bout with cancer, because "it's just like what I carried in 'Nam except it isn't full automatic... yet."
I bought a lower thinking the price was going up, now I'm looking at a kit to finish it while I still can buy one. Chances are that if/when it gets done I will fire it a couple of times, then park it in the gun case where it will collect dust just like 90% of my other firearms.

The AR15 is the modern day equivalent to the musket rifle from the late 1700's.

It is the reason the 2A was written.

God forbid we ever need to push out a tyrant or invading force, but if we do, you will want an AR15.

Militia works with regular army so it is beneficial that you have a rifle that military armory has plenty of ammo and magazine's for. Also, all parts except the fire control group are interchangeable with the M16.

In its base configuration, the AR15 is easily operated by most people over the age of 12.

It is a great all around self defense and sporting rifle.

I wonder if they still make the bracket so you can mount a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 onto the bottom of an AR? It was a bit cumbersome. For those M203 wannabees!

What is really fun is one in .22LR, with a registered M16 lower AND a suppressor. Now that is fun!. And affordable. Even an AR-15 in .22LR with a suppressor is lots of fun. I will always remember the day a guy brought his M16 lower with the .22LR upper and suppressor. We lined up to load magazines and shoot it. We had to supply our own ammo, but I did that willingly to be able to play with that machine. I have shot .30 cal. air cooled, and several full auto communist weapons since but that .22LR was really fun. So was the 9mm MP5. Also a very fun and controllable gun in full auto.

I dunno.. they are kind of fun to shoot. The recoil forces are near non existent. As centerfire ammo goes, it is pretty cheap.

Oh... not that I would know of course... I lost mine and most of the rest of my firearms when I crossed the lake in a canoe that capsized.. Yep, must be at the bottom of the lake....
