Anyone added an intercooler to their 4120-4720?

The 4720 already has one. I thought all the 4x20’s had them. If not, it should be easy to add the components.

My 4120 doesn’t and there’s not a lot of room between the turbo cold discharge and intake manifold. Like maybe 1.5” at the most. IMG_9695.jpg there’s about 3/4” in between the hose clamps.

See if the 4720 has a different turbo bracket. Both the 4720 and the 4120 have the same block and the same chassis, so if you want to buy a few parts, you can for sure make it happen.
It could easily be 2-3K for the parts though. What do you hope to accomplish? I would be surprised if you gained 5 hp.

As hot as the intake temps are I would have thought it would be more hp. Though I might add the debris getting stuck in between the cooler and the radiator might be a hassle. I just have to blow the radiator out now. The screen catches most of it. Not worth 2k. But I would like to think that the longevity would be better?

I just checked...The intercooler is $570.00 so you could probably get all the parts for $1200 or so.
The early 4520 had 5 more hp than the 4320 (before the 4520 got an electronic controlled engine). The 4520 has an intercooler and the 4320 does not.
I don’t know how much the intercooler will contribute to overall longevity. Maybe some of the diesel experts could quantify that.

Have you checked the cost to trade tractors?

Love my 2008 4120. Owned it since new and do not want to trade for a new with DEF and all that crap. I would not want a used one either as I’m a stickler on maintenance and don’t want one that someone else has improperly maintained.

Don't blame you.. but what is the interest in the "intercooler" ?

More hp and cooler IAT. 5 hp would be noticed on a tractor with only 38. I don’t think it’s worth the cost though. Might could go after market and save a bunch. Also do the fabrication of moving the turbo away from engine myself. Think I’ll just leave it the way it is. I also wonder if any tuning would have to be done to up the fuel.
