What does CAF mean? Cant find anything on just those letters.

Civil Asset Forfeiture.

Like I said, if you're doing wrong it could happen.. You're average normal person is never going to get cash taken from them in a traffic stop.. This isn't communist China..

No, but in many places, it IS a Police State rife with abuse of authority.

There will always be abuse of power and where there is you will see a higher percentage of LEO's getting bullets thrown at them..

Under CAF, they don't have to prove anything, nor even accuse you of anything. It's up to you to prove your side, if you even get the chance to. There are PDs around the country funding their daily operations that way. Vote me in as President and I'll end CAF once and for all.

I don't remember the last time I had more than $100 cash on me. Everything I do is electronic. If I'm going to a small store that I know doesn't take CCs (like the Amish ones), I'll hit an ATM on the way.

Many employers now will not issue paychecks. All pay is Direct Deposit. All Federal and many State payroll and benefits transactions are Direct Deposit only.
Yep.
Read up on CAF. It'll open your eyes.

There have been a number of cases where people had cash to go buy a car, or because they just sold one.

Other cases of small business owners carrying the day's receipts to the bank for deposit.

Got stopped for some silly thing like no turn signal, money gone. PD ends up with a new cruiser or body armor.
I am curious how the police found that the had the cash in some of the cases, it's not something that has ever come up in any traffic stop that I have been in.

The scary part is that if you are carrying a large sum of money, chances are that some of it has been in proximaty to drugs at some point; so the dogs are going to signal on it.

A couple of friends went to the Big City in one of their brand new Diesel Fords, to go to an Auction. Somehow he got pulled over (in a chase, the cops said) after pulling away from a light too quickly. They were going to charge him with racing which means a 7 day vehicle impound. My one friend often carrys five or so thousand dollars around with him and probably had even more for the auction. They had a hard time convincing the cops they weren't drug dealers, although I never found out how the cops found out about the cash. Neither friend really wanted to talk about their big city advanture. lol

It can be as simple as a bag or briefcase sitting on the passenger seat in plain view. 'OK, Sir, have a nice day and watch your speed next time. Oh, by the way, what's in the bag over there, just asking for my safety.'

Are you compelled to answer? Not necessarily.

Will you be free to drive off if you don't? Not necessarily.

And so it begins.....

As stated above, there are PDs around the country who do this kind of thing as a matter of practice to enhance their budgets. Some specially train 'drug interdiction' units to use tactics most citizens would be appalled at. When the last Administration tried to end the program, there was a massive outcry from agencies all over the country.

Yeah, that's a whole 'nother angle. Traces of cocaine have been found on cash in all sorts of honest businesses. Just TRY to prove it didn't get there while in your possession. Same with counterfeit currency.

When was the last time an officer stopped you and had his K-9 in or around you're vehicle? My guess is never...

That becomes an issue of profiling which is another tactic Drug Interdiction teams are trained in. Most of us posting here don't fall into any of those targeted profiles. But there are completely honest and upstanding people who do and get caught up in this kind of thing.
