Bag phone? There must be some point at which older phones will not work on current networks. How much backward compatibility do the networks allow? They tried to tell me that myt two year old 6s had reached "end of life", around a year ago!

Still using my 5s, and will keep on doing so until I loose it, or it quits.
Just replaced the battery.

A friend went through tht bother on his 6s recently, but the new battery didn't live long for whatever reason.

The Nokia bag phone I got in 1996 or so was fully obsolete and non functional by 2000 or so, though to this day it will still power up.

For my next cell phone, I am considering a Google phone (they offer software updates for at least 3 years from phone intro, while other Android phones don't). If I can find one that has a replaceable battery, even better.

I was all set to get a Wilson cell booster, but the senior engineer said I had too weak of signal..

It wasn't that long ago that a bag phone was the only thing that would work here in this rural (hilly) area.

Even as a HAM, I still don't understand how they finallly got the performance they did achieve. Amazing! I mean, you can resend data a thousand times until you get it, but that doesn't work well with a real time phone call.

I remember using two tin cans and a string. Voice quality was ok.......

I remember using two tin cans and a string. Voice quality was ok.......

Usually better if you wet the string.

I saw a video of a guy talking on HF radio with a string soaked in salt water or chicken soup or something as his antenna. I will see if I can find it.
The salt water antenna begins at 7:15 into the video

That's pretty slick.
