Storm Area 51

I think you are pushing an ideal situation. Like your last sentence, if a "kook" is bent on committing a violent act, they will go far to see it through. There are so many guns out there they can get illegitimately, youd never stop them.

This country used to take better care of mentally defective people. Maybe they should take from the welfare abusers to open more nut houses.

I'm not pushing anything...I can just read the writing on the wall...

The fact is...if they truly want to prevent more of the same they are going to have to profile likely perpetrators...the average amoeba is smart enough to realize banning or confiscating guns is not the solution...It's really NOT about guns per se...!

I agree it's not about guns. Its people. I dont think you can keep the crazies from getting what they want.

It makes me think, that people spend billions of dollars watching all manner of violence, death and destruction, obviously considering it "good" entertainment, and then something happens in real life, relatively minor in the grand scheme of things (obviously not if you are involved) and everybody freaks out, like, how could this happen. People are weird!

Look at NY's "Assault Rifle Registration" it has what is believed to be around a 10% compliance rate.
Does anyone really think that a actual confiscation would do any better without people going door to door to collect them by force?

I know several people (some family) who have mental issues (Downs, Autistim, etc) who would benefit from something like an adult daycare or someplace where they can go and "work" doing menial work that gives them a reason to get up and get dressed for the day.
A friend who works in the mental health system says that there are a lot of people who are currently homeless that could lead a relatively normal life if they could live somewhere where they had someone to make sure they were taking their meds every day.

And the very actors who make millions upon millions portraying said violence in movies as the "private citizen who takes on the bad guys" are against private citizens having guns that would enable them to defend themselves against real life bad guys.

You have to think that virtually every movie I have ever seen, seemed to have some theme about killing someone to solve a problem. I can't imagine, that humans, that are so easily programmed, are not effected by this.

..particularly if they came from a household were any form of basic morality wasn't taught, or a household that was unstable, or even non-existent -- combine that with the addictions to technology that have/are making individuals incapable of having face-to-face social interactions.

Seems like a great way to (inadvertently) be creating increasing numbers of people who fail to value the lives of others - or even their own life, and are likely to resort to their perceived form of acceptable conflict resolution (i.e. extreme violence) when they don't get their way. .....now that I'm writing this, the concept of Swatting is starting to seem very similar to mass shootings -- with the biggest difference being that instead of going on a shooting spree themselves, they trick the police into doing it for them (while targeting specific individuals).
