IMO...

Realistically it is hard to imagine exactly what type of legislation they may be able to get passed...the next national election will be telling...

There is little doubt that they will amend the background requirements which will eliminate unrecorded private sales of "certain firearms" and accessories etc...creating a complete firearm registry is logistically not realistic...

Something they can do is add restrictions to certain ammo purchases...i.e., if a person is buying particular ammunition that fits a particular (i.e., cal etc.) description you could possibly be required to show proof of ownership of the firearms that use said ammo...

Yeah, so what are they going to do about us "reloaders".. Is that going to become illegal or require a manufacturing license. Would not put it past 'em

Like I said...right now it's all conjecture...the farther left they allow things to go the more they could push things to the extreme so all bets would be off...

Even the left will have to compromise and forsake some privacy rights issues...

I do suspect that even these days they look at anyone that is buying industrial quantities of any type of arms or ammo materials...

And finally...personal observations of possible threats from unstable persons who have the wherewithal to do harm to innocent people should be reported by friends and relatives... If you see something, say something

My problem with the red flag laws is that if somebody is truly unstable and interested in doing harm to innocent people and we are trying to prevent harm to said innocent people, why are we stopping at taking away their guns?
If they are enough of a danger to warrant taking away their guns, why are we not instead referring them for a full involuntary psychological evaluation?

Exactly. This all boils down to the fantasy that we would all be good people if those evil minded guns would just go away. No one would murder again if we could just get rid of the guns. Those planing mayhem wouldn't do it if we could just make sure they didn't get their AR15. That's all we have to do. The guns make them "do it". Without the guns, they would be as harmless as "heel hounds".

Right now we are not taking their guns away...other than personal observation there is no means of detecting a profile...
To be effective any action will have to be 100% comprehensive (all encompassing) and it will have to include a database of certain medications prescribed for certain types of disorders...and sooner or later on the new background check forms there will be a place that says when you sign the form you allow the powers that be to check your social media activity, your medical records and the prescription databases...of course nothing they can do about those that will still sneak under the radar including future kooks that already own guns and or have access to black market goods etc...

I think you are pushing an ideal situation. Like your last sentence, if a "kook" is bent on committing a violent act, they will go far to see it through. There are so many guns out there they can get illegitimately, youd never stop them.

This country used to take better care of mentally defective people. Maybe they should take from the welfare abusers to open more nut houses.
