Was I out of line?

The one that gets me is:

(me) "Hello"

(them)....after a pause..."Who is this ?"

Torks me off......so I respond "Who were you hoping to get ?"....or "Well, WHO is this ?"

(them) "uh, I think I have the wrong number"

(me)...."Could be...OR maybe I just stopped in the middle of my burglary to answer the phone.....you want to speak to one of the folks I duct taped up ?"

What good is a phone if you can't have fun with it ? :D

The one that gets me is I answer the phone at work: systems operations this is- (name).

Caller:who?

Me: (name)

Caller: who?

Me: who is THIS? what do YOU want?

They know where they are calling and the job function of the person on the phone. They know its recorded. All they have to do is state their business.

They do it to everyone, not just me. I think they are nervous or something so they aren't paying attention 100%

Work phones and home phones to me where totally different;
if it was an internal call on a work phone, I'd answer with morning, afternoon or what ever and my name,
external the company name and may I help you.
My home phone it's Hello and wait, and I expect them to identify themselves and ask for whom they wish to speak to,
if they don't it becomes what do you want.
There is an exception to that if I think it's a telemarketer or similar I may just answer with WHAT, and wait to see.

It irritates me when people don't answer and screen there calls, I'm still old school in many ways when we didn't have answering machines,
and no one didn't answer their phones when it rang, sometimes even at a neighbors if the ring was yours.

I knew when I commented that this would come up. However, if it's a number that I don't recognize there's about a 99% chance that it's a telemarketer or somebody else that I don't need to talk to; despite being on the "no call list". I've received calls from spoofers showing local numbers, and it gets downright annoying.

It is rumored that the gubment is working on something to curb this.

I’m not going to say you are out of touch, but who has a home phone these days!?!? Haha. Good luck, it’s the age they need some good direction!

My grip is people that get voice mail and say"call me"without saying what it's about. When I return their call (if I don't get their voice mail:laughing:),they tell me something like "your order came in" or "would you go measure the whickett and call me back with how wide it is" or "if you are at your desk, give me our account number,if you're not leave it on my voice mail". Point being they could eliminate 1-2 calls back and forth if they state their business on voice mail so that I'm prepared before returning their call.
Decades ago I received wrong number calls all times of night. An example. Despite having told them 2 Friday nights in a row that George doesn't live here and don't call this number at 1am again, they would do the same thing next Friday night. When caller ID came out I would call the number back when I got up at 6am and ask "did you ever locate George last night". Of course they were still hung over and pissed but the wrong number at mid-night calls stopped.

Your house, your phone, your rules. I’m with the comedian with the “My cow died” comment. That’ll get the point across.
