JMHO - I think a lot of folks don't even know what "etiquette" means. On the phone or otherwise.

Fuuny, you made me think...

In today's society with kids and cell phones, how many people actually call a home (land line phone) where you run the chance of different multiple family members could pick up the phone? Generally, EVERYONE has a cell phone now and when you call a number, you're only calling ONE person and not a "home".

By the same token, look at where communication has taken us via the written word online.

I can honestly say the reality is I wouldn't be half the *** I am in the politics section here if I would/could actually talk to someone. Even less if I could look them in the eyes and talk.

I am getting old. Never thought I'd say that, but times ARE changing... I'm becoming an old angry man LOL

I hate to say this, but I'm glad I won't be here in 50 years. Not certain if I want to see what we become as a socitey.

Perhaps a teaching moment, but you need to set the example. Be polite and ask for the kid痴 name and why he/she was calling. The kid was probably nervous...but if you know the kid and he/she was just being a butt...then I would hang up.

Many years ago when we had a couple of teenage daughters at home, sometimes when I answered a phone, the voice on the other end would say, "Who is this?" and I always answered, "I don't know, who are you?"

To be honest, I know the boy and his parents (and they know me) and I get the fact that kids are like farts in that they aren't as bad if they're your own, but these two boys seem to get into trouble each other more so than my sons other friends. In that aspect, I am somewhat biased.

...If I really want to throw someone off tangent, if they ask "can I ask you a question?" I inform them that no matter what they have heard......

I'm always puzzled by the "Can I ask you a question?" question:

1) Obviously yes, you just did....Oh, you really want to ask two questions? Uh-huh...So why did you lie?
or
2) Yes, but just one. And that was it. Sorry I have to go now.

Many years ago. my son, early teens, got a phone call. I could tell it was for my son as it was nothing but high pitched giggling and talking. I couldn't understand them, but i just handed the phone to my son and said, it's for you. :D

I can't believe you still have a land line, who has those these days?

Me. I went cell only long before it was common... back then they still required a landline number before they would provide service.
As they got more popular with “new and improved” phones the range decreased; places that I could use my bag phone 23 years ago are dead zones now.

I got tired of never having service, or going out to the truck in pouring rain or subzero weather and driving 1/4 mile to make a call. It has improved somewhat though... I can leave my phone in the truck where service is usually OK, and receive calls via Bluetooth on my cordless landline.

Do you live in mountains or just no need for cell towers there? Where we live I can see one tower and there's another about 5 miles away.

Had BELL out to repair a bad landline for me. I have two. Was surprised to hear that I am the only one using the cable that goes past my property. No wonder, no one else calls when the "remote switch" has an issue. Not that long ago, there was a shortage of pairs. A little longer ago than that, I was on a party line.

Was reading about millennials in general. Apparently they are quite level headed, easy going and not so mad at the world like some of us older folk. I would be madder than heck, at what I inherited, if I was them!
