Return unused Echo and buy from a better dealer?

With all that equipment you have, and all the post you've made, I'm kind thinking you can handle a chainsaw tuneup yourself.

I bought a cheap kit of the special drivers for carb tuneups for about $10 several years ago and did my own the one time it needed it. Used the same kit on my weed eater. Haven't used it since, because they just don't need adjustment that much once you get them set.

How many people support a brand that have only owned that one brand? Most people feel very strongly about the brand of tractor that they own, but what other brands have they owned? Same with chainsaws. Most buy the one that they like the best based on what others have said, or they just like the color of the paint. How many change brands and have owned multiple brands? How many of them will recomend their brand as the best, but have never tried the other brands?

I've owned McCullough, which were good, Poulon and Husqvarna, which where junk, Stihl, which does great, but all three are hard to start, and Echo, which is the easiest to start by far, costs less then Stihl for the same power, and cuts just as good as any other brand with the same quality of chain.

As for Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge vs Toyota, I can't comment on any of the because I always end up buying Ford based on price, bed length and appearance.

Bought kubota because all the little 3 cylinder diesels I saw at work NEVER had to be fixed. NEVER.

I have worked for Ford and Dodge directly, never cared for their designs. Worked as a body repairman, dealer mechanic, instructor, field service engineer, college instructor, mechanic at utility company. Ford always did things backwards. Dodge uses cheap parts. Own a jeep, is ok, cheap parts. I always liked the way chevys looked. I like servicing them better too. Had alot of chevys I liked. A Toyota that was just ok.

So that's some of my experiences and some of my opinions. They vary greatly from person to person.

I wont buy an echo chainsaw same as you wont a husqvarna. I will dang sure never own a power stroke diesel (other than a 7.3) after spending 10 years farting with 6.0 and 6.4 turds. Is either of us wrong? No.

Another laughable post.Echo,s are used around here by many tree trimmers.5 year warranty to boot.You do make me laugh though with your foolish of the wall KNOW NOTHING POSTS.Another CITY SLICKER with NO CLUE..

From my research echo/shindaiwa are now the same company.Both of my echo,s have been great saws for the last 8 years.

Yeah, some models are echo carry overs and some are shindaiwa carry overs with orange paint instead of red. I liked shindaiwa better than I liked echo.

One of the things to look at on 2 strokes is how many hours the engine is rated to run within EPA limits. Shindaiwa usually had longer times.

I believe most of this was cylinder and ring wear.

Same around here. Pro loggers mostly using Stihl with some Husqvarna. Same with pro electric utility tree trimmers. Never seen them with an Echo. I do see however landscape professionals using Echo, just not their chainsaws. I like my Echo, but as you stated they don稚 have the power to weight ratio of the Husqvarna or Stihls. I can feel it cutting and I did the math. The Echo saws are decent, but not high output.

I have not greased the nose on the bar on any chainsaw I have owned in the past 15-20 years. The only time I've lost a tip is when it got crushed when I misread the tension on a tree when cleaning up some storm damage. Some very well thought of bars don't even have a hole to grease them. The trick with this is either grease them regularly or don't grease them at all. Once you start greasing a bar, you have to keep greasing it: the grease attracts and holds dirt and grit. Pushing in new grease flushes the crud out.

Well, all I can say, is it seized up.

The dealer I got my Echo from sells Stihl and was selling Husky to Government. Now, some government is going over to Echo. I have heard that Stihl has terrible warranty policies. Some companies think they are Gods gift to the world and will find out otherwise. Just like many thought, the Chinese could never be a threat.

The most common reason that I've seen for tip failure is running the chain too tight. When I was doing powerline maintenance I had a coworker who hated throwing chains so would wind them as tight as he could get them. He burned up more bars that summer than I have in my life.

I don't do bigbuxbrands. No matter how good a tool is, I can ruin it, even if only by leaving it outside unprotected from the elements for weeks or months. If I ruin a $100 tool, it isn't as much of a loss as if I ruin a $500 tool.

That said, I'm having decent luck (for the moment) with a Blue Max chainsaw. Got it for around $150 with interchangeable 14 and 20 inch bars and chains. Takes a few pulls to get it primed (no bulb), but from then on it starts and runs fine for what I do.
