Engineers are like everyone else... some good, some bad.

All of my "learning" was 21 years in the field as a tech, before the "engineer" title. Then a lot of self taught science background part. Plus I actually did pay attention in high school. yeah I looked a lot at the women, but I also listened in the science classes. Then as an "engineer", there was a bunch of seminars. Some good, some not so good. I remember one that had 721 powerpoint slides. DEATH BY POWERPOINT. Sheesh. The instructor read every one. Honest. Talk about a waste of time and money.
Ha ha... powerpoint presentations, I hear you. However I will challenge you with regard to your remark about 'women' in high school. Go back and look at your high school yearbook and some of them you thought were hot. 'Girls' they were, and wow did they change! Of course us guys didn't... we are still cool and smart!

At the 30 year reunion some still looked pretty good. At the 40, one or two still looked pretty good. At this last one.. Well we are all on Medicare now..So... well.. I guess it is all relative, but not any of us really look young any more. Yeah. I am still cool and smart. Then I look in the mirror, and some old bastich is looking back at me...yuck.

What was it that Arthur Fonzarelli said?: "live fast, die young, make a good looking corpse".. :)

Oh, some of the "women" teachers who at the time we thought were pretty old, I get to thinking about it a couple were about 24. Heck they don't look much older than we do mixed in with us "kids".

In a couple of my circles of friends, the term 'pop' implies beer. As in having a couple pops. :D

Agreed the term 'application engineer' is loosely used and is commonly tagged on 'tech sales' people that interface with 'degreed' engineers.

I'm feeling a bit offended by these remarks. I hope I fall into the minority.

I always get a chuckle out of these "engineer hate rants" that pop up in places like this and especially on Welding Web. Yep, all engineers are idiots. ...Says all the people typing on their computers invented and designed by engineers, after they got off their tractors designed by engineers, or maybe just flew on a plane designed by engineers, to which they drove their car, designed by engineers on roads designed by engineers. And of course, this doesn't even scratch the surface. But they are all idiots and don't know how to do anything practical. Whatever works for ya!

As a kid I always thought that Eva Gabor on Green Acres and Elizabeth Montgomery on Bewitched were old ladies. Now I think differently when I see reruns. But I think the same now as I did then about Mary Ann on Gilligans Island.

Sound words... when you are preaching to the choir. What you have to face and deal with now is that this younger generation doesn't care for guns, doesn't care about the 2nd amendment, and certainly doesn't care to "compromise" with you. They know their day will come, and you and I will be gone.

not only the second. I really doubt they think very much about any of the amendments, They just go about their daily routine as if nothing has changed...
I really feel bad /sad, that they don't care or even have a clue. They get up , go to work. wait until the end of the week when they can go out to a nice dinner and a glass of wine, etc,. Their constitutional rights are out of sight, and out of mind.
They have no idea what they have, so they will not miss when they are removed

Hey don't forget about those girls that weren't lookers and were late bloomers! There were a few that we ignored... but 15 - 20 years later at a reunion reading their name tag, caused us to say... really, wow... did you used to wear glasses?

Nobody said engineers aren't smart, some of them are so smart they lack common sense, (probably ran out of room in their brain because they were so smart).. :D I worked with probably a couple of hundred of them over the years, side by side in electronics labs..

I agree, but look at the changes that have occurred in the last 20 years; Same sex marriage, legalized marijuana, the Patriot Act... We are dinosaurs, there is a new kid on the block, and gun rights don't seem to be important to them.

Well said, but the reality is over time, both morals AND values change over time due to varying social circumstances.

And if you sit back and do nothing that is what will happen. I take a different approach. I lead by example, hold my kids to what I consider to be good standards and values and help show others that the shooting sports are fun. Amongst other things like making sure the kids know how to change their car tire, change their own oil, diagnose vehicle problems and fix/repair stuff themselves. You can't change everyone but you have influence over some.

By the way, it isn't all doom and gloom. A lot of things regarding firearms and gun rights have moved in the right direction in the last 30 years. Carry permit issuance has been revolutionized across the country (see map below), the high school trap league essentially appeared overnight and became the largest extra-curricular 'sport' in MN and firearm ownership has been rising continually.
