That's the way to do it, in fact I think you were partly behind my inspiration to build my "racks". I took a slightly different approach to the design, but still the handling is down to just twice other than the final stove loading making it 3 times grabbing it instead of 5 or 6.

The folding for storage is why I liked this design.

They hold about 90 cu/ft each and I have a dozen of them built and filled now. I figure I'll use about 6-8 of them per season so I'll be building 6 more to always be a year ahead with a "cushion" of a rack or two. It still amazes me how much they settle (shrink) after a year of so of drying.

MY "tractors and wood" today, was to get started splitting some oaks that were taken down by my arborist friend.

My splitter pushes everything through the 4-way wedge, and all the splits go out onto an outfeed table, away from me,

I build these half cord boxes, so it's easy to take the splits off the splitters outfeed table, and stack them right into the boxes, SR

Isn't it fun stacking wood so it can be un-stacked then stacked again. So my guess is, your tractor is lifting 2000 lbs of next years firewood unless your drying area is a kiln. I haven't cut up this years wood yet, I have to wait two more weeks.

That is the only time those splits will be stacked...

Rusty: those boxes look good! I tried a couple different designs, but I wanted to keep them low, so they would be more stable when I moved them, and so I could see over them when I move them.

Then I can pick the box up with my tractor and move it to a "drying area". I find it to be MUCH less handling of the wood this way...

Nice Idea with the boxes, might have to build me a couple to try it out.

Your tractor will pick them up full? I'd need either a larger tractor or a smaller rack!! Mines a 37hp 3450 K

And why do you have to wait two more weeks??

I tried a similar approach and dumped a load....I am not very good I guess. Went with IBC totes

I do need to drive very carefully, so far I've been using the skid steer for its finer controls for both the forks and speed. (gear tractor)
I tend to be a little eccentric with my firewood and my process and find that a tall single row has the best/fastest drying results.

I've got a couple of those totes too.. seems like a pain to get wood into and then out of them.. how do you set them up for access?
