I still drive it. I predict the engine will out last the transmission. And it’s a 4l80. A 4l60 would probably already be dead. Mine is already in a small percentage that made it that far. Hardly ever is the engine the first to go in a vehicle.

And how was the fuel efficiency on that has engine?

I cannot recall. I'm sure the diesel burned less, though. As I mentioned, fuel usage is a concern for high hour operators. Not so much for low hour operators. It's been discussed here many times that the fuel savings on diesel pickup trucks VS gas pickup trucks for the average annual driver is never gonna pay for the diesel option. Never.

The 6.0 in my suburban has 291,000 miles, 9300 hours and still runs perfect. I still drive it. How much more durable do you want?

The neighbor that runs a excavator business has many trucks that have the 6.0 and he has had very good luck with them. They run'em hard but they hold up.

I think it depends how hard you drive them, loads and such. I've got a 4L60E in my 93 suburban. I had one in my 93 3/4 ton van. I pulled it out of the van when we scrapped it, in case I'd need it for the Suburban in the future. It's still sitting on a skid in the back of my garage 12 years later. But, I only have 139,000 on the Suburban.

A gas engine must be of a modern design so it has max torque a low rpm, that 1.3l I had had max torque 240Nm at 1600 rpm, almost as a diesel.

Well, most engines today is of much higher quality than it was in the old days, it's easy to fall in to the nostalgia trapp :)

Yep. Remember trying to coax 300hp out of a car in the late 60's/early 70's? It was not easy, and it was usually a very rough running engine at idle, and not very street practical. We have a 2013 Impala that makes 300hp, yet cruises down the highway at 70mph at about 1700rpm getting 31mpg! It's all aluminum, gasoline direct injection, variable valve timing, dual overhead cams, 4 valve per cylinder, 11.5:1 compression ratio, on 87 octane gas.

New engines are very impressive compared to the past.

Our Impala's max torque occurs at 5300rpm.

Body by Fisher, Engine by Singer lol

Today impressive performance runs on electric power, silent, efficient, no gears and almost no limit on torque and kw so we are talking "steam engines" here today ;)
