Roky was an old high school classmate. His band was the 13th Floor Elevators. They were one of the first Psycodelic Rock bands. Later referred to as "Head Bands", before the Grateful Dead, etc. Had a pretty big hit in 1966--"You're Gonna Miss Me" that had them on the various Dick Clark TV shows at the time. Mescal was reported as being the drug of choice for the band. I'm sure it's related because poor Roky spent most of his early adult life in the state prison for the insane. He had periods of sobriety later in life and released some more music, but I never heard any of it. He was back in Austin when he died.

Dr John has passed away at the age of 77.

Ginger Baker, drummer for the British rock group Cream passed away at the age of 80.

Like his music or not (I did), Dr. John had style.

Only SlowHand left now.... at least they got in a few reunion concerts while they still could. The Wik entry says it best "Formed from members of previously successful bands, they are widely regarded as the world's first supergroup." I didn't know (or forgot) that all 3 sang lead.

One could say pretty much the same thing about Ginger Baker. Not so much him and his personality but his music was at least one of the best.

Even other famous drummers speak well of Baker as a musician. Personality/personal life doesn't read as well.

Cream was a great trio for sure, the reunion almost didn't happen. Jack Bruce had been through liver cancer and liver transplant, he nearly died. It was such a joy to see them back together that I bought the DVD of their Royal Albert Hall concerts. Bruce and Baker managed to coexist long enough for the three night gig in the UK, but things didn't go as well at Madison Square Gardens.
