Wow cant believe that seeing's how your a huge Echo fan. One thing that turned me off on the 590 is no replaceable sprocket rim, it's one of those must haves for me now, along with adjustable oilier and captive bar nuts.
Anyone one see this, talk about a click bate title, that alone will send shivers up someone back especially if they live near WA. Talk about over engineering, but you know what a maintenance man says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", an engineer says if it ain't broke, there's not enough moving parts".

No matter how you slice it the 550xp has more power but is it worth the $150.00 more...........

Considering how poorly that my 545 ran over the course of the three years that I had it, I will pass on another autotune carb. Aside from the money, it really didn't break my heart when that log rolled onto it.

Those guides are all nice if your lengths are consistent and there are no forks in the tree.
Would sure be nice to only start with clean, straight 4 ft lengths that then give U nice even 16 inch firewood.
Problem is my trees don't adhere to those rules.

Well, I'm generally starting with whole tree lengths, since I most often cut it to length in the woods. When I do bring it home, it's generally in a 10 or 12 foot length. I just cut my 16" logs. When I get to a fork or something gnarly, if I don't see an easy way to make it work out, that chunk gets cut out and thrown on the bonfire/campfire pile. Likewise when I get to the end of the log: if I'm paying attention, I'll adjust my cuts so as not to end up with something too long or to short. if I do get an odd-ball that I don't want to mess with retrimming or too short to be worth throwing in the stove, it's another log for the bonfire. I've got plenty of wood, but don't always have plenty of time. Plus, we enjoy sitting outside around the fire circle with the kids or some friends.
So far my new 550xp runs lot better then my old one, and at $600.00 it will break my bank if I roll anything on it, that's why for the most part I'll use my Echo more. I haven't used my new 550xp since last March so it started harder then I thought it would.
My older son showed up this afternoon while I was cutting up wood, I looked over at him and thinking that his Stihl 44 dont look as big as I remember, so we finish the cuts and he lifts up at me a brand new Stihl MS 261, well no wonder the saw looked small. He ask me if my left arm is sore, I said yes and he said his started hurting the other day so he went and bought a smaller saw this morning, that new Stihl has all the same features that my 550xp has and it's the same price I paid, all said and $600.00, but I think Husqvarna has the edge on fuel & oil caps.
So I gave it a try, it's really a nice balanced saw and seem to cut as fast as my 550xp, safe to say husqvarna has some serious competition, he said he had to get Stihl brand file to file the chain. What would be interesting is put all three saws on a scale and check the weight, almost feels to me that 261MS is a hair lighter then the 550xp.

I try not to complain about it, but when I bought my 545 it was because I wanted a decent saw, and thought that it would pay for itself. Instead all that I ever did was fight to keep it running. The dealer did his best; he replaced the carb and top end, yet it still ran like crap. The only way to start it was to lock the brake, hold the throttle open and drop start until it finally caught. It wouldn't idle, and I would have to restart it multiple times while limbing the same tree. The day I finally rolled the tree on it I had caught myself dropstarting it twice without realizing the brake wasn't set; there are days when you shouldn't be running a saw. Yet I believe that it was a matter of time before I cut myself badly if I had kept running it.
Edit; after doing an internet wide search it appears that mine was the exception to the rule. Arboristsite & Forestryforum among others each have rave reviews. It makes me wonder what I was doing wrong.
