Just got 5 acres with hardwoods and underbrush.
Looking to buy a used tractor, brush mower and box blade.
Loader and backhoe in the future would be ideal.
Here to learn.
Sure appreciate being a member, thanks for having me around.

Hello and welcome to TBN. By the way, not everybody lives in Florida. Some of us have winter.

Thank you all for the welcome. South of Tampa for now, so road trips back and forth are ahead. Great opportunity for looking at machinery and building materials. Time to build a dedicated shop.

Having worked winters, I still have a 220 Volt 4,000 Watt electric heater and a propane torpedo when more BTU's are needed. Many of my best customers are in Washington State.

A lot of these USED Tractors maintain a good price because a lot of people are looking for the same things... that greed thing starts and the prices sometimes reflect it !

IF I were doing this, I would look around and find what Tractor Dealers were within ear shot of your location. If you buy used and the Brand Dealer is local to you, then it is easier to maintain the tractor... depending on age.
Also I would try to buy the Tractor as a TLB, "T" Tractor, "L" Loader, and "B" Backhoe, these items cost more when purchased separately and when you decide the time is right to buy the model that fits your tractor may not be available. Basic Attachments like the Box Blade, Brush Hog and maybe a Grader/Scraper (Land Leveler), are all available in the size you want and usually can be purchased "used" for a reduced price almost anytime.

It is hard to determine if a Used Tractor is good or not, drive it, do some moves on it, try lifting with the Front Loader (FEL) and if there is a Backhoe (BH) stretch it out, try digging with it, move it all around, and then check for leaks on the hoses, wherever there is a joint in the main body of the tractor.

That's my take on buying a used tractor, hope anything I post will be taken with a grain of salt... !

Good Luck on your hunt !

Thank you for posting that about buying a TLB. Makes sense to get the expensive parts together at first, as a working system as opposed to sourcing it later.

Have operated rentals and wrenched professionally long ago, giving me a feel for machines in general. Your advice to move it and work it some seems like a good plan.
