Many Chinese-made electrical items are set up for 220VAC/50Hz, as that is the standard domestic electrical service in Europe and many other countries. In the US, the standard is 120VAC, and 240VAC, both 60Hz. The 240VAC here will have a different plug, and the frequency setting will not allow you to use many devices not set up for US electrical service.

Big help again, I thought there was a difference. Thanks

A mechanic told us we needed a new turbo for the tractor and it was over $1200 (+ taxes)
I did some searching and 48 hours later we had one at the door for $300 or so from Ali Baba!
Yes, duty, taxes and brokerage included!

LOL, later found the so called mechanic was wrong and my friend asked the dealership what could he now do with the not needed turbo.
The dealer clerk said they'd take it into stock but not at retail price.
They credited him $800! (probably his usual cost price from manufacturer)
Now that is what I call a win win.

AND, the quality was excellent!

Oh heck yeah!!! I didn't know that service existed.

Even better: I got the inspection service....for free. It was "on sale" the month that I made my deal last year. The inspector sent photos from the visit to see my shipment.

There is nothing wrong with hiring your own customs broker who will handle all the details. You may also want to pay Alibaba for their inspection service, where someone visits the factory for you and examines the product before it is shipped. It may be $100-150 well-spent.

You can run most motors at 50 or 60hz. They spin 10-15% slower on 50hz power than 60. The AC frequency & number of poles define how fast a motor will spin. Running slower may cause some cooling issues. VFDs are super popular & mess with frequency for speed control. VFD rated motors have better cooling & a wider frequency range than normal motors. But most will happily run +- 30-40% or so.

In Afghanistsn power was 50hz 220v. Most everything ran just fine with a step down transformer. Interestingly one of the biggest problems were alarm clocks. Every few days they would be 10 minutes or so off. They use the AC frequency to track time as it's super accurate & consistent in order to maintain a power grid.

Electronics rarely actually care. There is a power brick that converts AC to DC & then. Nothing beyond that has any clue about frequency.

I looked into trying it once with something cheap but bulky just to see what was involved. I want a manually operated (no air or electricity) tire changer. But not the cheap Harbor Freight kind. Instead one that can clamp to the rim and has an over head arm to avoid scratching the wheel. It'll be used occasionally so elbow grease is less of a problem than trying to get it working because it sat for 12 months. The few I have seen sold here go for $1000. I've seen them in the Chinese sites for between 1/4 to 1/2 the price. The biggest thing I noticed was that they all seamed to come from the same city yet the packaging size varied widely. Since volume, not weight was going to be the determining factor it made comparing actual costs to purchase much harder. So I would look into seeing how far the supplier can break it down to minimize the crate size.

re 50/60 hz----
I have a bench grinder that is 50 hz and use it a few times per week and that for 20 years now.

Main difference is 50 wants more copper/windings etc. and with lighting you'd see flickers.

Aviation uses 110 VAC but at 400 hz as it saves lots of copper (weight) and transformer cores (weight)

As Chris Lowe had mentioned in another thread I have once again ( this is typical for me and online forums ) made a mess of this subject cause I have threads all over the place but cant be changed now.

Ive been going back and forth on what Im gonna do with this situation. Not being sure I wanted the risk of buying overseas, Ive tried to learn everything I can about these portable drill rigs, its tough but Im able to pick up little bits and pieces from peoples listings, Im able to see small differences in overall construction of the rig, there can be differences in drill stem diam, there are differences in how the machine drills.

Ive decided ( I think for sure ) on a SH260D drilling machine made by Sunmoy manufacturing. A video of machine in operation can be seen here S2D portable water well drilling rig, small drilling rig, mini drilling rig - YouTube

Most other machines I have been looking at on alibaba were closer in description to the Sunmoy S200D

SH260D is equipped with the gearbox and it is run by hydraulic motor, not by electrical-driven motor. S200D doesn't have gearbox. This is main difference, more powerful.

SH260D has an electrical motor that is 60HZ right out of the box and James Ye at Sunmoy has told me that this motor will run much more efficiently than the motor that is set up for 50HZ

S200D is equipped with 42mm diameter drilling pipe.

SH260D is equipped with 51mm diameter drilling pipes.

So the cost is different.

SH260D-100 is USD2800.

The SH260D-60 is USD2480 with 60 meters of drill pipes

Ive spent hours doing the best I can online researching these things, unfortunately Id like to add that I have messages AND called and left several messages to 2 of the larger U.S based portable well drilling suppliers and neither of them ever answers the phone, only one has called me back and left a message, when I immediately returned the call they again didnt pick up the phone.

Im gonna comment maybe more on that later but from what I have read online ( gotta be true right :) ) the U.S manufacturers make very little of the product but instead purchase vast majority of their machines from overseas.

Problem with Sunmoy is I cant purchase thru Alibaba, they do not sell there, I have to pay with paypal,( or check ) I have contacted paypal and they tell me I am covered if something were to happen.

When all will be said and done I will prob have very close to into this drilling rig what I could have paid someone to do the drilling for me.......thats not the point, the point is to experince new things in life.

I will also ( hopefully ) have the ability ( and will take advantage ) of being able to drill multiple wells on my property, I am also hoping to be able to drill at least one useful well for someone else locally so that I can recoup at least half of my expense.

I think if I were buying a larger item ( more expensive ) I could really see a savings cost. At this point assuming I do save anything it will most prob be in the 1500-2000 dollar range.

========================

Exactly what I have found. Companies in the USA are NOT service oriented towards the customer.

Once I contact an overseas company from Japan, China, India, etc they bend over backwards answering my quaetions, sending pictures, videos, price quotes etc.
