my L5740 started with a small exhaust leak on the front cylinder after BH this summer I am in the process of removing it to replace the gaskets. its turninginto more of a job than I thought due to egr cooler and turbo inlet. the manifold is pretty rusty any else had problems with exhaust leaks?

What year? I have an older one - 2007 - and no problems. Knock on wood.....

Had to change mine about a year ago. No way I was going to attempt that job. I brought it to a mechanic shop. Luckily my brother owns a mechanic shop.

How is the repairs going? Was it a gasket issue or worse?

I believe that's the same engine as the Kubota M59. I checked over our M59 engine last month, and ours - a fairly recent model (2007) with 1000 hrs - looks fine. Not much rust for a manifold, which didn't surprise me as any rust is rare in dry Colorado. and no leaks I can see.
What's the hours/history on yours?

What I do remember about removing parts on the left side of the engine comes from looking around under the hood of our Kubota M59 at one point and sort of mentally tallying up any special tools or things that would trip things up if I ever had to service the EGR cooler or do simple maintenance. It sure looked to me that it will require an unusually shaped offset wrench made up to fit the bolt holding the forward flange on the EGR cooler. I halfway promised myself I'd make up such a tool next time I had an evening to kill in the machine shop, but never got around to it. Other than that one bolt everything it looked standard & easy - though it hardly ever is.....
luck, rScotty

No rust on mine other than the usual light surface scale from being unpainted, after about 600 hours of use. Mine is stored in a heated garage when not in use. Do you happen to drive it on salt covered roads in the winter? Exhaust systems for on-road vehicles tend to last forever outside of the rust belt. Here in NY, not so much.
