I have learned so much on this forum I thought I'd contribute. I have an 87 Ford 1710 that had milky fluid and the 3 pnt had no lift like there was a blockage. I think moisture just built up causing the milk or maybe a leak around the shift boots. None the less it was fluid change time. After draining at the 4 sump locations I left it open all night. The next day I replaced plugs and removed the diverting block and pulled the relief out for a complete clean. Then I loosened lines running from the diverting block to the back and allowed frothy fluid to drain out. I noticed a banjo bolt holding the filter housing and pulled the bolt out to find a piece of what appears to be some type of heavy paper towel or filter membrane. As I removed it I was wondering if previous owner swabed out a fitting and some of the rag tore off. I'm thinking that was the blockage issue starving the pump. Replaced the filter and refilled reservoir. I left the front of the diverting block seperated from the pipe coming from the pump and placed a bucket under it. I ran the engine until I saw the last of the old oil and the beginning of the new. Then I reconnected that line and loosened the rear banjo bolt and did the same to flush out that line as well. Puppy runs like a new one. Probably didn't have to disconnect for first bleed at the diverting block but I already had it loosen because I cleaned it. Got rid of old oil and air locks at the same time. Just my 2 cents. Keep them old rigs running y'all, they don't make em like they used to.
