Oliver 1655 Charging Circuit

I have an Oliver 1655 gas that is not charging. I replaced the alternator and regulator. How can I troubleshoot this? The orignal mechanical regulator has 4 terminals and the orange wire was connected to terminal 4. I placeed the new regulator that I assume is electronic on the tractor and connected the wire to the same terminal. Is that correct? Any ideas? Thanks.

was there any paper work with the new regulator, hard to make any conclusions without documentation to check out.
Absolutely no idea what your nw regulators terminals are.

The original regulator has terminals labeled F,2,3,4.
My shop manual says to use terminals labeled F and #3. I pulled the orange wire off of #4. What should it be?

Most of the Olivers had an amp meter in the dash, does yours or is it a charge light?
With the key on do you have battery power on the orange wire?
If you have an amp meter and the orange wire gets power straight from the battery,
that should go on the #3 terminal most likely, if you had just an indicator light then #4.
How many wires are you hooking up how many were on the old regulator?

This one has an amp meter. I know there is continuity on the orange wire. Have not check it for voltage yet. There were 2 wires on the old regulator....field and the orange wire in question.

I checked the orange wire to see if it was broken. Need to check for voltage.

There is voltage to the regulator. I connected the orange wir to the field terminal of the alter and it is charging the battery. The original regualtor was a mechanical one. Do the solid state regulators require different connections? Field is obvious but what about the others?
