I'm getting a Bauman 1040B drop spreader that looks like it has a manual flow control valve similar to the kind on Northern Tool...I think it's by Brand Hydraulics. See attached.
I'm using the front hydraulics the valve for which is a center off spool (push button actuated from the cab). I can figure out which will send the oil to the "IN" port on the valve, but what would happen if one accidentally pressured the exhaust port (which looks like it's T'd into the return of the motor? Would the motor spin in reverse, which might be useful to clear a jam? Would the valve be damaged?

Oil will follow path of least resistance. In this case mentioned it would flow in the EF port and out the IN port with no motor rotation. Some pressure required to rotate motor plus pressure required to push oil through the "normal" flow control orifice in the return oil from the motor.

I get it. Thank you. I feel good that the valve would not be damaged. But would the motor be able to free-spin in such a case? Can this be used to unjam the agitators in the spreader should they become jammed? I believe with the center-ports-blocked valve the auxiliary hydraulics has on the FEL, that the motor would not be able to be rotated if the spool is in the center.

Safer way to unjam it it would be to shut engine off, turn key back on without starting and push the solenoid button to open oil flow path for motor then try rotating by hand.

Cool! Thank You! I've used that technique to get couplers connected without pressure on them, but never thought of it being used in a hydraulic motor situation. I'll definitely try that before I need to do it for real.
