In the end, I'll make a variety of things with the lumber, and because I have no idea of what that will be, I always mill it in a variety of ways, including leaving some bark on a few...

I have a second story room over my shop, and the 20' 6 log will make trim that will go corner to corner of that room!

And here's the rest of the story. That tree hauled lot harder then I thought it should of, it brought my front end up once just before the last video so had to winch it two more times. I'll probably;y cut it up this weekend. Winch a whole tree - YouTube

Richard at Cutting Edge saw service. He sells blades, sharpens blades, fixes mills etc. I'm thinking he's up in Virginia, or down in Virginia to you. ;-)

These were Kasco Blades .045 thick and a 4 degree tooth.. work great.

For kicks, here's some wood, sorry no tractor pics with it. Sliced up the crotch from an oak a while ago and finally dry enough to make some end tables.

Very nice - I like those.

How do you keep the cookies from splitting ? I often cut a cookie from the butt of a tree and bring it home so I can study the growth
rings to get a read on what happened to it the last 80 or 100 years. Some I would like to make something from but they always get radial splits as the dry but yours look super.

I mostly got lucky I believe , I did dry them in a covered area crammed in the "fork slot" on a skid in the middle of a pile of drying lumber, so no sun or rain and maybe a little humidity from the bunks of other wood drying there...??? If you look at the far right table in the bottom pic you will see a small split on the far end of that table, fingers crossed it doesn't open up any more.

What do you do to remove mud and rocks from the log?
