He’s got 2x12s spanning the bed to take most of the load off the tailgate. I don’t understand the point of the bracket. A strap would be far less effort than that.

It looks like he may also have one of those in front. Granted his bracket to the receiver is rather gumped together, but I unless his bolts loosen I can't see the wheeler going very far without the truck attached.

They make a very similar commercial mount for ATVs - Here is one at Bass Pro - Access Denied

I have seen an apparatus called guard dog to secure an atv in the back of a pickup. There are other makers also that are very similar with different names. I think even amazon sells a version or two. I agree with 4570Man that a couple of straps would get the job done for me.

Cinch down the front end with a strap or two and you're good to go from a moral standpoint. That contraption on the rear should easily (in a court of law) satisfy any National non-commercial tie down requirements.

Some well designed brackets like a rental stump grinder are a real time saver but the ATV can’t be loaded with this guys contraption in place. A strap would be way faster.

Overkill is the name of the game today.
Insure against anything that can happen less frequently then getting struck by lightning.
A solid steel connection holding the ATV in is better then flimsy straps that can stretch and or break.

You SHOULD use BOTH.
Anything else is putting MY family at risk of certain death even though we are in a different state.

I don't like straps for holding them down, although I use them with 1/2 inch nylon rope for backup. Last winter I was on a rough road and the only thing holding the snowsled on was a 3" rachet tie down; when I got to where I was going the only thing keeping it on was pure luck. I had cinched the sled up tight against the front of the bed, but because of the up and down motion on the bumps the strap came unhooked. I also need to get some of the fire hose which somebody else suggested, after a winter with the straps run through the suspension thry are marginally effective.

Securing equipment that have flexing suspension is always a bit different and more difficult. A variety of solutions are available. For instance when using chains, binders are made in different sizes that are spring loaded so that the chain stays tight even as the load moves up and down. Perhaps they would be of use.
