Only 4? I've seen 6 at a time running, with 5 or 6 semis running in and out all day. Last year, they descended on the fields like locusts about 2PM one day, ran continuous all night and vanished by 6AM.

Gotta get the grain off while you can get into the field...

I've heard there is a lot of money in actual Hemp. Which is now federally legal.

Marijuana is a tax racket. 20% + tax on an already raised price at the stores out here. Until its taxed like regular stuff black market isn't going anywhere, especially since every one can grow it in their yard now.

That is impressive, would love to watch them harvest sometime. Around here the farms are much smaller and basically they all use grants to make any money/survive. They make real money on those big farms? Or just lots of ethanol subsidies?


**Not knocking any of these farms, I'd rather subsidies for farms than other nonsense. Also, the ones around here do a lot of community things that really add to the towns, just curious if anyone farming makes any actual money**

No Ethanol subsidies here. In Iowa there are some. Doug is 66 years old. He's a multi-millionaire. He didn't do that from subsidies. He did it from long hours and stress beyond our ability to comprehend. Wake up in the middle of the night puking up blood. Surviving on minimal sleep. Cell Phone ringing every 15 minutes. Multi-tasking at a level above our understanding.

I am not at all envious of him. I am extremely proud of him. For anyone that thinks farming is easy I suggest Monday morning go to the bank and state your case for borrowing mulit-millions of dollars. Doug borrowed 5.2 Million to put in his crops this year. Go for it.

Tobacco is the #1 tax racket, various Governments make much more profit than the Tobacco Companies that make the product, Alcohol may be #2..

Wait! What??? You had a RADIO with you (albeit fender mounted) in the 60痴????

I was running tillers at 1900 engine RPM, creeper gear, non cab tractors in that same time frame. I wouldn稚 have been able to hear a radio and dust would have killed it in a couple of hours anyhow

They have 10 semis. If they had 6 combines they would need 15 semis. Running continuous all night? Must not have humidity to deal with?

Yep. It's a brutal life during planting or harvesting season.

Yep. There are some gigantic operations up there. Their yield is small so the grain handling process is less per acre but still huge farmers.
