Diggin It lives in Lower Uncton, England, so that's possible..

I didn't know where Lower Uncton was. I've asked several times and get snubbed. So I didn't know???? :confused3:

They have 10 semis. If they had 6 combines they would need 15 semis. Running continuous all night? Must not have humidity to deal with?

Yeah, we had to shut down about dusk, else we would bind up the combine and you would be pulling straw for an hour or so. We couldn't start right at daylight either; we used that extra time in the morning to service our machinery.

That crew was pulling Soy Beans. Another farm did Milo with one combine and semi and it took them most of a week.

Yep. This pic shows the machinery sitting early morning waiting for the dew to evaporate so they can start again. In my world there's no days where you can run 24hrs a day.

They cut Soy Beans 24hrs a day?? Wow.

Where exactly is Lower Uncton?? Maybe in the Sahara Desert? :)

These guys are so big, I don't think they have time to worry about dew. They run their own fuel and spray tankers and have at least of couple of trucks set up to reload helicopter sprayers by means of a type of landing platform on top of the truck.

You need to reread 2lanecruzer's post. You can't cut Soy Beans with dew on. You simply cannot. No combine made will do it without plugging or pouring the beans out the back.

Where exactly is Lower Uncton??? :)

All of this equipment is GPS guided. When the planter tractor is going across the field the driver lets go of the steering wheel. JD's system is so accurate now that it can place the row within 1.5". You hafta think about that for a bit. 1.5" on a 24 row planter.

Also notice the marker booms are folded on this planter. They are only used if the system fails for some reason. Very impressive. I guess you expect that when you pay $225K for a planter.

Also, the planter has the ability to shut off 2 rows at a time. So when he's finishing these "point rows" he's doing a minimal amount of double planting. Doug says the savings in seed alone will pay for the guidance system.

Just take a look over your shoulder to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

In my area (South Western BC) farmland sells for over $100K per acre. That’s down from pre 2008 when it was north of $130K.

No one can afford to get into farming with mortgage payments on that. Not many mechanized crops would command enough dollars per acre to make a living wage. Even marijuana is grown in greenhouses on cheaper non arable land.
