I really like the elevated vertical splitter but I’d have to have a lift on it. I like it because the horizontal requires moving the split chunk back on the beam for another go. I think the downside is it’s a fairly weak splitter but O don’t see anything preventing a bigger stronger version being built. If you had an equal cycle time and equal tonnage my money is going on the vertical as being faster.

No you dont, the vertical Powersplit model has optional log lift for it which can also used as a extended side table. Also the vertical model is producing lot less slash, can customize the size split wood, and maybe the best part is it self powered to be moved around to the next wood pile.

That’s another big advantage. I use it for speed but I don’t like the quality of wood that comes across my 4 way. I know they make a log lift and it’s a mandatory feature for me. But I’m pretty sure those are like 8k for the base model. No lift, no conveyer, no self propelled. I might steal their design and build one but I won’t be paying that for a fairly basic splitter.

This home made one is the best I seen for one big reason, it has a crane instead log lift which means no more rolling block to the splitter, I never seen saw any sense in that, also this block return is a great idea, but look at the slash it's making.

I put a crane on my splitter ten years ago, it simply is the best way to get block to the splitter, I can reach out 10' in all directions.

I use my tractor to push the rounds up to the splitter to keep the rolling distance short. I also put a hydraulic lift on my 4 way to minimize the slash it makes but I’d still rather use the single way fast cycle time and multiple pieces at once concept. The crane isn’t a bad concept either. Anything to save lifting by hand.

I'm curious myself of the price, you otta send them an email and get a quote, I would but I dont dare to, but I bet you aint far off. They also have other models.

I usually have my tractor hooked to the splitter especially when using crane, then as I get the wood split I pull ahead or backup to stay close-ish. Yes on the fast cycle time and thats where a lot of home made splitters fail and amen to save lifting, around 14-16" I have to use my crane or risk hurting my back.
