I think you will be better served by doing it the way you did when you were a kid. We plant about 20 ac in food plots every year. We prefer the spray, mow, disk, broadcast and cover method. We have rented a drill in past years, but it is a bit problematic matching the plant date with the availability of the drill, transporting the drill to/from the farm center to planting area, and setting it up properly for depth/seed rate. The unit was a 12' Great Plains and we pulled it fine with a 85 hp tractor, but I wouldn't try it with something half that size.
