There is more load then you think. atleast on the blade part. on our snow cats that part of the blade was articulated. we could have them straight or at a 45 degree angle or anything in between with a hydraulic cylinder controlling the angle.

the suggestion about the blade flexing more than the guard seems like a good one. maybe you are reinforcing the wrong part. maybe you just need to build some flex into that guard since they aren't really meant to work very hard. like bolting them loosely to the blade.

Just a few ideas from an arm chair wannabe engineer.

Nice looking fab work.

The guard tears are the opposite side they should be from the stress of pushing snow. The bully blades themselves are quite heavy and of all that are here, I can't see any have been repaired. Leaving the bolts loose, seems would make for tears quicker yet. :confused3:

We just returned from a trip and while away, my boss asked when we'll be back and said "we got snow here". In the high country we had new snow in excess of 2ft so we will be getting the Bullys out. They may have went out today. :)

I thought I might get Monday off but the boss texted me late on Sunday and wanted us out in the early hours to groom new snow in and cut downed trees. There wasn't all that much snow but many, many trees across the trail. This is a brand spanking new machine we had out. Please let me know if you appreciate this thread.

Some of the trees bent over, were you able to knock the snow off by driving through, or is that a no no? I have had those over my drive while snowblowing and I had to get out and shake the snow off so the trees would stand back up. Jon

Opps, quoted the wrong post. Should have been the one with the pictures.

As someone who enjoys Wisconsin and Michigan snowmobile trails I thoroughly enjoy this thread. My retirement plans include a full time move to northern Wisconsin the main reason being access to better snow and trail conditions. So Arly, keep up the great work and keep the pictures coming. A future video of your work would be nice.

We opened up a trail today which took 12 hours, so I'm a tad tired.. I took a bunch of pictures as best as I could, using just one hand. (I'm in the machine alone) I'll add some as soon as they are processed.

Thank you for all you nice comments!!
