I have a 300 or 350 gallon fuel skid that I wanted to make 'semi-mobile'. Basically be able to slowly move it around the shop if needed. Not down the road or anything.

Before I start building something, I might as well see if anyone has come across something like this or main their own?

I'm tempted to look at old grain cart frames and go with that. Otherwise I'll fab a steel framework and go from there.

Modify it so you can use a pallet jack to move it.
The jack is really handy in my garage.

How about a small utility trailer?
You are looking at 3000-4000 lbs to move. Tires make it easier to move.

Any trailer with air filled tires is going to need 15in tires. That can really take up a lot of space quick..or make it very top heavy.

I like the pallet jack idea

I have no idea what your tank is like but my 300 gallon containment tank is forkliftable when empty,
I would be cautious when it was filled if it could handle being moved without a secondary frame for support.

I put 4 steel swivel wheels on my fuel tank, I can move it around fairly easily. It is only 100 gallon rectangular tank though. You could build a frame and mount 4 wheels but with 300 gallons of fuel is not going to be easily moved by hand unless you go with larger air filled rubber tires.

I would think that a 2 wheeled boat trailer with rolling jack stand would be the cheapest, most available and easiest modified that would handle the job but it is going to take up a lot of room in your shop.

P8050013.jpgYour three hundred gallons fuel tank and fuel and are gonna be heaveee. Huge HD castors underneath a home made pallet made of wood or steel would keep the center of gravity low and provide a space underneath for forklift forks. Picture this with castors under it.

Do you plan on pushing it by hand or something with a hitch on it or tractor forks? Reason I ask is because I put my weight box on a frame with steel wheels and it is barely pushable. Steel wheels, concrete floor. It weighs 900#. I am somewhat fit, 6'2" 260# and I really grunt.

2500-3000# full tank will take extreme effort even with a pallet jack, but it can be done. Use large steel castors.

My initial idea was that I would have to build a frame or pallet to set the skid tank on. Ideally throw two sets of axles underneath it. Like a header cart for a combine. I want to be able to pull it out of the barn so the fuel truck doesn't have to drive all the way back to the barn to fill up the tank. Then pull it back with the tractor.

My setup is WAY smaller in capacity and the trailer is far to weak to support what you want.....but more frame, stronger axles.....you could accomplish the same end result.

Its VERY handy. That tank is 150 gallons overall....tows easy with even a 12hp lawn mower.
