The batteries aren't bad for free. They work for a few days before petering out.

Saw them on Amazon I think a while ago. Battery takes a mini usb cable (I think it came with them).

I saw two types;

The batteries aren't bad for free. They work for a few days before petering out.

I've been using the free AAA's in a cordless mouse. They last 2~3 weeks.

Well worth what they cost!

I'm not sure if this belongs in the don't suck or do suck thread..but I just stopped into my local HF and picked up a side locker that hangs off the side of my tool box. It's about 18" wide, 5' tall and 18" or so deep. The good is that the hanger clips worked on my Snap-On box, and the finish on the new box is a close match to my big box ( Black ) ..the bad... the latch pins don't seem to work well .... may have to dril, twist, ..massage it to work. Also picked up one of their 229.00 rolling carts... nice draw layout and nice casters..but the directions suck. ...really bad. And the side tray was bent, and I didn't notice that until it was 1/2 together. Once it was 95% together I noticed the bottom draw has a outie dent in it. It's fairly small but a dent none the less. Loading the thing up and driving all the way back down there is a pita.. and it certainly won't be going back in the box it was in... which was garbage to begin with.

I miss those cheap multimeters they used to give out for free. They were rarely accurate (at least not on their voltage measurements), but they were handy to get a rough indication.

Heard the Icon boxes and stuff are much better plus they deliver them to your home. US General.... not so much.

I still have at least half a dozen, but I agree they are way better than a test light and at free you didn't cry if you accidentally hooked one up wrong and smoked it.

There's a calibration screw inside the meters, visible when you replace the battery. I borrowed a real bench multimeter (HP) from a friend and calibrated my four free meters back when they were yellow. Then I've used those for reference on the later red ones.

But calibrating to get one scale exact (to test 12v car battery) still left random variance on what they showed measuring 120v AC - up to 2v variance across several meters.

When I found Bosch FIX 7665 meters on sale at Fry's for $10 I bought one each for home and ranch and gave the yellow freebies to Goodwill. These are lighted, and the Hold feature is a valuable addition.
