Can a diesel f250 comfortably pull a 13k backhoe at say 60mph?

If so, is it best to load the hoe front or rear facing?

I assume a gooseneck a good bit longer than the machine would be best? I'm new to pulling anything over say 8k and it's a good thing to hear from experience vs guessing on towing.

Can it be done probably, but I wouldn’t. I’ve done it with a Dually and it’s a pretty big load for that truck. My 4x4 310 was closer to 17k though. And my trailer is 5500 pounds. Load the backhoe forward and you’ll need a 25’ trailer or a 20+5’

The trailer would probably weigh 6-7500# so the total pulling would be 20k. I have pulled a fifth wheel camper that weighs 16k at highway speeds but with a dually. A 20k load I would be nervous about especially with a SRW truck.

Look at your door sticker for the GCVWR.
The you can pull up a pdf from ford web site on the towing chart for your configuration.
There are way to many variables to give you a clear cut answer.
You have, year make of truck, engine size (6.0l, 7.3l, 6.4l, 6.7l); trim levels (XL, XLT, KR etc.), 4x4, camper pkg. etc.
All these factors have a impact on your pin weight for a GN and ball hitch.
The Ford chart along with your door sticker can get you within the safe range to answer your question.
Use this tool to get teh details of your truck: VIN Decoder - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

And it still can get confusing, I read about it on the Ford forum frequently.
So if you need a peer check, post all your data, configuration here and a bunch of smart folks can help with a sanity check to help answer your question.

Regards....

It should not be done. It's too much weight.

You can 'pull' about just about anything with about anything on flat ground but can you stop it in an emercency" That is the question only you can answer.

Charlie Atlas could pull a railroad car no problem but that rail car would flatten his butt if it ran over him.

Pulling it is not the question. The better question is, Can you stop it? For your safety and others safety, even if the charts say that it is possible, please do not do it. It is to much weight for a 250. I have over 750,000 miles of dragging a gooseneck and I would not hook that kind of a load to my dually.

I didn't see the make and model of the truck. I had a diesel one tone dually would be lucky to pull a 10k load. Watcha got?

If you have a trailer with good brakes like my Big Tex had you can stop it. If you’ve got a trailer with worn out brakes you can wave as you drive by.

Good brakes are important but 15,000 tractor tractor plus 7,000 pound trailer is to much weight for a 250 truck. That kind of weight will push a light truck around and a 250 is to light for the load. A light mist or rain will turn the road to an ice like condition and trailer brakes alone will not stop that much weight. If you think that it is safe wait until some one pulls out in front of you or a kid on a bike rides out in front of you. The law suits will make you wish there was more truck under the load. Just because you can do something does not mean it is safe. I could put 10 people in a car but it is not a safe way to move them. Put 10 people on a bus there is no problem.
